Collins thinks he has Bulls job
Doug Collins' broadcasting duties have concluded and general manager John Paxson returned from the predraft camp on Friday with no plans to travel throughout the weekend. Given the fact Collins already has interviewed formally with Paxson and team Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and had a follow-up phone interview, not to mention the three principals' long relationships, only negotiations would remain to make Collins coach. Paxson's initial statement indicated he wanted to interview other candidates until Collins' TNT work ended. There were no plans for any weekend interviews. People close to Collins remain convinced the job is his. Collins has shared his excitement about getting the job with confidantes.

Is this a joke? The guy failed to win a title with Jordan on the team, and he hasn't done anything notable since then, other than being a good commentator. There's a two generation gap between him and Beasley or Rose - he's old enough to be their grandfather. When he last coached Chicago they weren't even born.

Collins coached the Bulls when all they had was Michael.Jordan. No Pippen, no Grant, and Brad Sellers and Dave Corzine in the low block. They still had the best record they'd had in 15 years. I won't hold that against him. The current team needs someone that at least knows what he's doing. If Collins gets the support of the front office, he'll do well.

I'm not a huge Doug Collins fan in this situation, but why would Flip Saunders be any better? The Pistons went to the Conf. Finals by default these past two years.

It still sucks the Bulls didn't get D'Antoni. But Collins sounds like he knows the game of basketball very well when he does play by play on TNT so maybe that will carry over.

Collins was not a good coach, Jordan saved him twice. Flip is a much better fit for getting young talent to mesh and getting morons to learn how to shoot.
