After 36 years, it appears that the city's name will be returning to the Baltimore Orioles' road uniforms. The Orioles are in the process of filing the required paperwork with Major League Baseball to add "Baltimore" to their road jerseys, replacing the nickname of the club that has been displayed on the away uniforms since 1973, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The uniform change will be in effect for the 2009 season.

Good for Baltimore. They are a proud franchise, and it must be tough to think that the Yankees and Red Sox are in their division....always.

Who cares what their uni says? Seriously.

CCC just above me is right, of course. However, how would you like to wear a hat with a little birdie on it every day? And I'm not talking about an Eagle, either.

they should change ownership. maybe they are hoping for a change like the rays.

When you play major league baseball, you play for a city. You play for the fans. You play for pride. You dont play for the team that owner makes the money from. Its all about the hometown where YOU make your money from.

that was heartfelt and I almost began to cry. When you play MLB, you play for one thing....MONEY!!!! Don't let anyone tell you different.

I like the hats they wore in the '80s. Bring those back.

June 2, 2008  05:20 PM ET

Whoopty crap. Who cares? Change the players.

June 2, 2008  06:49 PM ET

Hope they spel it right!

June 2, 2008  06:53 PM ET

Break out the bird costumes. Maybe the San Diego chicken will sue.

June 2, 2008  08:29 PM ET

Amen Dum Dum....My only question is what took them so long? Most teams change their jersey every year so us dopey fans go out and buy the new design.

June 2, 2008  09:16 PM ET

As they always say - "it's easier to change 25 uniforms then 25 players" !!!

June 2, 2008  10:13 PM ET

the O's have pulled a 180 this year (more like a 720). they have some very good young players and the pitching is decent - especially the pen. they've rid themselves of the overpaid, washed up vets like Sosa and Tejada.

If I were this team I would completely change the look and feel to exercise the demons since the late 90s. This team has been horrible and they are just now righting the ship.

Angelos doesn't need a bird's eye view of the wharf, he needs a fish-eye view!

I always liked the classic grey/black/orange script BALTIMORE jerseys. Harkens back to the Glory Days (AL Champs 69-71, WS Champs 70). I look forward to seeing them!
