Nachbar may draw Knicks interest

The Nets have said they want to keep their three prime free agents - Bostjan Nachbar and DeSagana Diop (both unrestricted) and the restricted Nenad Krstic. Nachbar said the Nets are his first choice. "Come July 1 when we can talk, they will be the first team," said Nachbar, who averaged a career-best 9.8 points this past season. "I appreciate what the Nets have done for me." The Nets, who like his shooting, figure to face some competition for his service. One team that might have interest is the Knicks: Nachbar played for Mike D'Antoni in Italy.

I'm not crazy about Nachbar.

June 2, 2008  08:26 AM ET

The Nets need Nachbar... He's a solid shooter off the bench.. Lord knows we need it...

June 2, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Kinicks??? Please.. they need many players and management...

June 2, 2008  08:46 AM ET

this puts the knicks over the edge. it will guarantee them at least no extra wins compared to the previous year

June 2, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Huh?
Nachbar?
whatever- if we can get him for FREE then 'd be interested.....otherwise- what do we (anyone) need him for at this point in time?

June 2, 2008  09:23 AM ET

I bet Thomas was seen hiding in the back giving advice for this one.. crazy.

Nachbar is a good role player, he shoots the ball well and has a pretty high basketball IQ. i look at him as a better version of luke walton, good addition to any team especially at his free agent price of 2-4 mil a year, good bargain if you ask me.

June 2, 2008  10:11 AM ET

i actually sorta think he'd fit with what i expect d'antoni to do in ny. 'good role player' is exactly what i think he'll turn out to be. or maybe i'm just being desperate for the knicks to do anything next season.

June 2, 2008  10:13 AM ET

Nachbar is gauging his value a little high, eh? I don't believe that he's a pivotal player or just THAT important to the Nets. Deflate the ego, please.

June 2, 2008  10:59 AM ET

He will land in NY anyway. Be it to the Knicks or staying with the Brooklyn Nets.

June 2, 2008  11:08 AM ET

Who is Bostjan Nachbar?

June 2, 2008  12:08 PM ET

With the Knicks current roster, almost anyone with a touch of talent and hard work would attract their attention.

June 2, 2008  12:23 PM ET

Yeah; just what they need. A European small forward that doesn't rebound and doesn't play defense.

doesn't that fall right in line with how d'antoni teams have traditionally played??? the knicks are lost.....and i'll take drastic change even if it means stepping away from what he knicks have been known for back in the day which is tough defensive minded squad that were willing to do the dirty work to win some games. i'm just sick of the embarrasment that is the knicks.....any change is welcome to me at this point

Change for the sake of change never works. At some point, the Knicks are going to have to start building something for the future. D'Antoni's offense will not work in New York. In order to run up and down, you have to rebound. In order for this offense to work, you have to share the ball. Nothing is going to happen here until some of the current roster is gone. Nachbar is a waste of time.

June 2, 2008  02:10 PM ET

Hllywd, you make it sound as if Nachbar would be an all-star/integral piece to the Knicks or to the nets. He has always been a role player and does his job and is paid accordingly. No one expects him to be an allstar that completely changes the face of an organization, i think you are being too harsh on a guy who will simply be a good journeyman through his career.

June 2, 2008  02:12 PM ET

maybe so. i will agree that they need a overhaul on the roster. but bringing in d'antoni to me is just what you said 'change for the sake of change'. by hiring that guy, you are virtually abandoning the type of basketball the organization has been accustom to prior to the zeke fiasco. and now that d'antoni is here....knicks fans have to except that. give him the necessary pieces its gonna take for him to do his thing and turn this ship around. i personnaly prefer the smashmouth teams but i know we won't get that with d'antoni.

That's my point. They can pick up a Nachbar anytime. Right now they need to be looking for players that will become the Knicks of the future.

I wrote in my blog about a month ago, that whoever they hired would only be around maybe 3 years. This hire was to take the team through the next couple of years until all the current contracts have expired. D'Antoni CANNOT be successful with this roster. When they decided not to buy out Marbury, to keep Curry and Randolph, and bring in a coach that can't even spell defense, they were throwing in the towel. Any improvement at all over the 23 games they put up this year will be considered a plus.

June 2, 2008  02:58 PM ET

The Knicks now have a respected GM and coach in place. They will obviously make roster changes also. That's what happens when you make changes in the front office. Mike D'Antoni knows how to win, he's proven it. He may or may not be able to win a title but for now the Knicks just have to learn to get from point A to point B. They have to become a playoff team before they can become a champioship team.

No coach is any better than the personnel on the floor. The coach that could make winners of the current Knicks, doesn't exist.
