Duke sophomore forward Josh McRoberts, who took part in testing and agility drills yesterday, said he had a workout scheduled with the 76ers this month. The Sixers are picking at Nos. 12 and 21, and there is a consensus that McRoberts won't go as high as 12 but should be gone by 21. That could change with the individual workouts.

this would b a great pick for the sixers they need some1 to come there and help andre iguadala out and josh mcroberts can make an imediate impact because of his jumping and passing abilities. did u c him at duke against some of the best players in the country.

hahahahahahahahahahaha mcroberts is the biggest joke ever- this guy sucks... his thinking must go like this .... when i get into the lane with no one guarding the basket its better to pass out for a contested 3 and get an assist then dunk it for two points... i would feel bad for the sixers if they drafted him

I'm a Sixers fan and I don't want any part of this stiff.

June 2, 2007  05:19 PM ET

ya
this guy is middle to late first round
and hes not gettin any better then he is now

June 2, 2007  09:50 PM ET

this not a move the 6ers need to get out of the doldrums. McRoberts was an average college player on a couple of occassions - fair to poor other times.

June 2, 2007  11:00 PM ET

yheh he is trash....wnba all the way

June 3, 2007  03:12 PM ET

as a huge Duke bball fan i am gonna have to agree with t he UNC fan, McRoverts is garbage...although part of me thinks he may do ok given superstars around him ala his frosh effort with JJ and Sheldon but overall he is weak and underachieving...

June 3, 2007  08:31 PM ET

McRoberts wasn't quite the disappointment Shavlik Randolph was at Duke, but he was close. If he had turned pro last year, he would have been a top 10 pick; this year - late first round at best. If he had stayed at Duke and had another year like last year, he would be Europe bound with little hope of an NBA future. He's a good ball handler for a big guy, and can play decent D when he want to, but that exhausts the positives. The guy has to get tougher and learn to shoot from 12 to 15 feet away from the basket. If he makes the NBA (doubtful) it will be as a periphery-oriented big guy who sits at or near the end of the bench.

June 4, 2007  09:12 AM ET

McRoberts is way overrated. He's the main reason for Duke's poor showing in big games. His temper and lack of coordination and no shooting touch should put him in bottom of second round if I was picking.
If he stayed at Duke for four years, he wouldn't be any better than he is now. Can't play defense and let's others jump over him and he gets in foul trouble due to his temper. And no concentration.

June 4, 2007  11:15 AM ET

McRoberts is making a bad mistake by going pro now. He should return to school and work on his ball skills and shooting ability. Tyler Hansboro from UNC is not coming out of school and he had a way better season then McRoberts did. I don't Josh how does it feel to leave college not even averaging a double double. You should think very hard about your decision.

To Hurricane
Yes, I did see him against good players, he wilted away under pressure and cried everytime a foul was called on him. This guy will get pummeled under the basket, doesn't look like he put on any muscle at Duke.

June 4, 2007  01:47 PM ET

you've got to be kidding. The sixers already have one Dookie in shav. Do you have to be burned twice to know you've got some trash? Dook (w/ the exception of a small "minority") does not produce pro ballers and mc roberts is no exception. Soft as twinkie filling.

June 4, 2007  02:29 PM ET

Just a point - Duke has more players on NBA teams than any other college in America right now. Sure about 10 years ago Duke got a bad rap for not producing NBA players, however Duke has more great to very good players in the NBA than any single college. Boozer, E. Brand, Baiter, Deng, Maggette, Chris Duhon, even Grant Hill is still playing. Seriously, that team could be an NBA playoff team if they were together. McRoberts might only be an ok NBA player but he has a ton of upside and he will have superior ball skills to other players his size. I expect he will actually be a much better pro than a college player. In fact it really makes no sense to compare the success of a college player and predict how they will fit into the pros since the games are so very different.

June 4, 2007  02:30 PM ET

Also - Duke players have the highest combined contract value of any college team in the NBA so its not like Duke has produced marginal players getting one year deals.

June 4, 2007  03:31 PM ET

now thats all fun and true defenserules, but we have to address the fact that Duke players, although high paid and as u say "common", are not the best players from college.

June 5, 2007  11:30 AM ET

no billy don't do it don't waste another draft pick go get and overseas player that will play now.

June 5, 2007  01:56 PM ET

I was going to leave this alone but I can't help myself, defenserules you must be a dook grad because you had to do some research to find that info. Another thing is the good to great comment. Battier is a great ambassador for the game but nowhere near great, duhon is serviceable but to be honest the Bulls kept him cause J. Williams decided to do an Evil Knievel impression, Boozer & Brand I will give you, but what about Cherokee Parks, Eric Meek, Christain Laettner, William Avery, Trajan Langdon, the list goes on. Dook is a nice college basketball school but as far as league ballers they are in short supply, regardless of their inflated salaries. Wheeeew!!!

you can alsways look at the Duke players and say the aren't the best in the NBA, but that just makes the point that Coach K is such a good coach he gets the most out of these kids. But you also have to consider all the really good players in the NBA from Duke. Hill before he got hurt. Brand, Boozer, and Maggette are beasts. Deng, Battier and Laettner all are or were good NBA players and then they have produced role players like Duhon. You can't judge Jay Williams or Bobby hurley because of the tragic accidents they were in. The funny thing about McRoberts is he really didn't want to come back to Duke this year and you could tell. He played almost all year like he was just going through the motions and didn't give a crap. he could turn into a gem in the NBA but i think he has no heart. I will concede that he has some skill and athleticism when he plays hard, but i don't think he has heart and you can't win without that desire.
