Mark Prior's season is over before it got started. Prior will have surgery this week to repair a tear in the anterior capsule of his right (pitching) shoulder. It is Prior's second season-ending shoulder surgery in two years, but after doctors briefed him, the 27-year-old vowed to pitch again, said his agent, John Boggs.

That would be nice. All the best to him. Hope he makes it back.

HA! It'll never happen.

guess dusty baker went 0/2 on pitchers. hope johhny cueto is paying attention

June 2, 2008  09:53 AM ET

He'll pitch again - simulated games maybe

June 2, 2008  10:07 AM ET

He's really good at the towell-toss

June 2, 2008  10:17 AM ET

This guy is my favorite player. He keeps getting teams to pay him for nothing. I love America!!!

June 2, 2008  10:24 AM ET

So much for a fresh start out west I guess.I hope he makes it back and pitches at least one injury free season. He must be frustrated, but I'm sure the money he made sitting on the sidelines brings some comfort.

Thanks for that nugget of wisdom o King of the Obvious.

June 2, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Please retire.

June 2, 2008  10:54 AM ET

They should release this story prior to the season, it is like death and taxes.

June 2, 2008  11:09 AM ET

Cubs have to feel good right now. They have a history of letting a guy go (Maddux) and watching him flourish. Obviously Prior is no Maddux, but what if Prior turned around and made something of himself? Finally a situation that does not hurt the Cubs. I do wish Prior luck, he is a good guy with bad luck.

Hmmm - who pitches first: Prior or Carl Pavano or Mike Hampton? A horse race of losers...

June 2, 2008  02:27 PM ET

he should take whatever $$ he's earned from baseball and call it a career....he's done! it would be a small miracle if he could bounce back; i'd love for him to make me eat my words tho - cuz this guy was real good.

and the notion that dusty baker caused his arm troubles is flat out ridiculous!!

June 2, 2008  02:52 PM ET

Yeeeeeeeeer done, retire before your arm falls off.

I heard that pavano is pitching off half a mound. he's scheduled to return the day after his contract expires.

I'd be willing to bet that this jackass goes to another team and produces. just another wanna be that could't handle pitching in the bronx...

Prior story stinks though. That guy was destined for greatness. Pavano and Hamtpon didn't have his potential.

NA NA NA NA NA NA NANA HEY HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE! Prior's a prima donna (I still remember his arrogant and aloof personality when he was with our cubbies). He should collect the salary he earns and go retire in his dear hometown San Diego, taking his ungratefulness and egoism along with him.

Why was Prior destined for Greatness? Cause he had one good season?

both prior and kerry wood were. When they pitched they were effective - can't say that about a lot of pitchers. its the damn injuries that got int he way. if these guys didn't get these injuries they would've been great.
