Bulls interested in Hamilton?

It's time to move Rip Hamilton. He has the highest trade value of the veterans. He's only 30, a two-time All-Star with one of the NBA's better midrange offensive games, and he has a trade-friendly contract -- two more years at $21 million total. Chicago might be a willing suitor. The Bulls have the first pick in this month's draft, but they need an experienced championship-tested scorer. Might they be willing to part with Luol Deng and Ben Gordon -- neither has agreed to a contract extension -- for Hamilton? It becomes a summer of high intrigue because president Joe Dumars knows his team is beyond the subtle tweak.

Luol Deng and Ben Gordon? I don't think so. Trade Hamilton for Gordon, but only if he loses that stupid face mask.

June 2, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Why are they going to blow things up and get younger after signing Billups to an extension?

June 2, 2008  08:19 AM ET

Seems your the only one interestred JFK... If they are looking to slightly rebuild the Pistons, and stay inchampionship contention, I dont think they can get rid of rip... but who knows, I read alot about them moving Sheed... Good thing they got Dumars, and not Thomas, at least they got a shot of righting the ship and not paying for over paid used up bums like in NY

June 2, 2008  08:30 AM ET

This is just a story to create some buzz in fannation. Dumars is smarter than this.

June 2, 2008  08:39 AM ET

aren't rip and gordon virtually the same type of player??? gordon with maybe a little bit better range. this trade seems silly

June 2, 2008  08:43 AM ET

I would love to see Toronto make a play for Hamilton. This guy is a great secondary scorer, a guy who is tough as nails despite his smallish stature and a clutch performer. He could provide leadership and scoring to ease the load on Bosh.

Rip needs to be on a team that has solid talent around him-
he's obviously a very good player.....but if he was the 'star' I don't think he would do nearly as well.......

June 2, 2008  09:15 AM ET

This would be a bad trade Rip for Deng.....Deng is young, bigger, and I think is a more complete player. Rip is in the right system for his skills. I don't think he will put up the numbers in another system.

June 2, 2008  09:25 AM ET

I think rip for gordon/deng wouldn't match up. I think Detroit may add another person to the mix. maybe maxiell or stucky (they should keep stucky. Why would detroit trade rip when they just signed billips? Because Billips will probably be up for trade too. The pistons management probably assume this team is underachieving and its time to move on. Only one championship with this personnel is inexcusable. Great to keep making it to the conference finals, but with as much chemistry as they have in detroit since they've played together so long and to let young teams like Cleveland and teams who have only been together for a couple of years at the most (Miami Heat, celtics) beat them probably shows the team is on a decline. Last but not least, they aren't getting as many calls as they used to. They were unbeatable in Detroit and even smirked about it at times because they could grab, rip could chest bump and call it defense, push off, etc. (everyone know Detroit got away with so much and was one of the least penalized teams), but since the league is getting more flashy and its apparent that they won't be the next great dynasty, the calls going their way are starting to even out (not much yet, but when they are in someone's else's building they are being called for the fouls they commit). Maybe its all of that or maybe its the new flop rule and they are all a bunch of floppers.

June 2, 2008  10:12 AM ET

dumars is too smart to trade for Gordon. Unfortunately.

June 2, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Surely, Joe Joe would not do that trade. I'd rather have Rip than Gordon.

June 2, 2008  10:35 AM ET

is anybody on the bulls worth protecting anymore??...i mean seriously who disagrees with what i just said...

giving deng and goron gives em both what they need...the only problem i have is....the fact that its in the same division...altough i dont mind gettting rip hamilton at this point...i dont mind giving those two up at all....with that #1 pick you gotta admit we'd have a great team...that possibly opens up the possibility of michael beasley #1...or soldifies derrick rose at #1....either way you want to look at that one considering we're trading the same positions away...we could fill either one...and filling luol dengs spot with michael beasley...with tyrus thomas there too...i wouldnt mind that one damn bit

June 2, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Rip better not get moved. I'm not ready to say goodbye to this group.

June 2, 2008  11:04 AM ET

If Detroit is done competing for championships, they'll trade Hamilton.

If they'd rather keep contending to try and win out of the east, they'll keep Hamilton.

June 2, 2008  11:16 AM ET

If anyone on the Pistons should be moved it will be Sheed. We need someone who will be play hard every game at the PF/ C posistion.

June 2, 2008  11:20 AM ET

spurs interested in RIP trade Finley Horry and Matt bonner

June 2, 2008  11:32 AM ET

Move Sheed not Rip,

June 2, 2008  11:38 AM ET

if the Pistons move either Rasheed OR Rip they lose too much. Rasheed is the reason they wont the title.

Judging from the Bulls' last experiment w/ a former Piston, I'd prefer that they simply look elsewhere. If Dumars trades Rip it's b/c he KNOWS Rip's done. Much like how he decided to let Big Ben go.
