Osgood blows off post-game media

Chris Osgood was nowhere to be found nearly an hour following the game. This was Osgood's worst performance of the playoffs. And he knew it, declining to speak with reporters afterwards. This performance should silence all the Conn Smythe Award talk. Osgood proved good enough. But they needed greatness Monday.

Well the last thread said that Fleury sucked...but he won. HE did.

June 3, 2008  08:34 AM ET

W/o Fleury, the Pens would have easily lost!

June 3, 2008  08:40 AM ET

what a game......true classic.....forget the predictions by sykora.........although, he scored...........wow....34 seconds to go.....I give them credit, they played well, and fluery was a wall.....

June 3, 2008  08:42 AM ET

The Wings offense beat down teams with about 20% of the dominance they had against these guys. I was waiting for the puck just to freeze in front of the line behind Fleury by the end of the ****ing game. My language is really bad today for some reason. Gotta go pray or something.

June 3, 2008  08:54 AM ET

The players in front of Ozzie sucked most of the match. Way too many turnovers. To blame Ozzie is ridiculous. Typical free press bs. It was a great match, and the wrong team won. Man I'm tired!

June 3, 2008  09:17 AM ET

This is why we play the games. I'm not trying to say anything bad about the Pens, but the best team doesn't always win. All it takes is a few lucky bounces and any team can beat any other. Wings fans were a bit premature in celebrating.

June 3, 2008  09:36 AM ET

Osgood played poorly but the Wings brought it on themselves with lackadaisical play in the final 2 minutes.

The crowd was screaming and partying and I was sitting there thinking of Popeye saying "He who larfs last larfs best..."

June 3, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Got to give it to the Pens. They put up a good fight to keep this series going and obviously have taken the momentum heading back to Pitt. Not saying they are going to win, just glad they finally made a series out of it.

June 3, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Osgood may have played poorly, but the Wings played well .. Whereas, Fleury kept the Pens Stanley Cup dreams alive!

June 3, 2008  10:01 AM ET

The best team does win, that's the whole point of playing a best of seven series. You make your own luck. No one was getting good bounces last night because the ice was just so bad from the extended game and the warm weather in Detroit. The best team won last night, the Pens put in the effort and they were rewarded. This is really turning into a fun and exciting series which is what all hockey fans wanted. A full 7 games would be great, more hockey for all of us to watch.

And to Tiger Woods regarding his comment about the Stanley Cup Finals, "lots of people care about and watch hockey" get over yourself.

June 3, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Hey North Hills Mullets,

What game were you watching? The game I watched, it seemed pretty clear that the best team was the Detroit Red Wings. They scored 4 goals and still managed to lose, because they scored one for the Pens. The best team normally wins a series, but maybe not all the games. The Pens have been better during a few moments of a couple of the periods, but clearly the Red Wings were better and dominated for long stretches. Despite this, I still expect the series to go 6 games and end with the Red Wings holding the Cup aloft in Pittsburgh!

June 3, 2008  10:18 AM ET

I would say that Detroit is the most skilled team. The best team is the one that wins, regardless of circumstances.

June 3, 2008  10:34 AM ET

Its funny how after just 2 so-so games (not even consecutive), the Detroit press is ready to eat Osgood alive...

Give the guy credit. He's backstopped you this far, and will most likely backstop you to a Stanley Cup championship. Hockeytown USA is really demanding of this guy, he never gets the credit he deserves.

June 3, 2008  10:37 AM ET

If the Wings hadn't been standing around imagining the victory celebration the tying goal wouldn't have happened. What was Osgood supposed to do with a guy who was allowed to stand there and whack at it?

June 3, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Okay...Personally I quite delighted that this series was extended so we can still enjoy some playoff hockey.
As far as comments relating to the best team wins?
Well, clearly Marc Andre Fleury won this game almost single handedly with one of the greatest goal tending performances I've seen in a playoff game stopping 55 of 58 shots.
Why would he want to talk to the media after 6 periods of hockey?
Good job by the Pens to capitalize on the 4 minute powerplay in the 6th period though.

Yeah, there should be no blame on Osgood, he played solidly. It's just him feeling disappointed, which is natural for a goalie, they want to stop everything, and if they don't they dwell on why they didn't.

June 3, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Hank...Did that guy behind the Pens bench last night look like J.C to you ?

June 3, 2008  10:53 AM ET

He didn't talk to the media cause he was still in the shower crying.

Divine intervention?

I was distracted by the cleavage of the blonde gal sitting to the left of Therrien...

And on that note, I love Lemieux's ball and chain. Classy.

I like Osgood. I don't think he is a superstar goalie but I like that he has always had a good work ethic and hasn't had to have the lime light on him. To be more to the point, he is the opposite of Hasek and I can't stand Hasek. That being said I think the press has reason to be on Osgood a little. He is playing with the best team in the league in front of him, WITH EASE. His goal tending doesn't need to be that of some of the greats but just be above average. Last night he wasn't above average. He was below average. If Detroit had a goalie that could put an average team on his back (like Turco did through two series) then this series would have been over already. No offense to Detroit fans or to Osgood. He's a good goalie but not one I've recognized to put a team on his back to win a series. Due to this he will receive more criticism with such talent skating in front of him. Any goalie would.
