Ganassi-Penske merger won't work

Rumors that have surfaced recently about a possible alliance between Chip Ganassi and Roger Penske in NASCAR racing, or of a possible Penske buyout of Ganassi's stock car team? Both men field Dodges in Sprint Cup racing, and at the recent Indianapolis 500, won by Ganassi driver Scott Dixon, the two pillars of the sport reportedly appeared a lot more chummy than usual. Sunday at Dover, Mike Accavitti, director of Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing Communications, said he had read the rumors but scoffed at them. "Absolutely preposterous," Accavitti said. "That would be like putting the Hatfields and McCoys together."

By looking at the picture, Ganassi is so pleased with Scott Dixon it appears that he is ready to give him a lick.

Ganassi and Penske? They'd have to move their shop to the Superdome in order to house that much ego in one building.

This one is a no brainer!

June 3, 2008  09:20 AM ET

This would NEVER happen,These two ICON'S would be
like putting a fox in a hen house = all he// would break loose

penski had better do something....his team has the drivers but the performance's havent been even close to compete week in and out for a cup champ. with roger sipping champaign at milw., his teams at dover struggled for a decent finish. with nascar being his second intrest, i would be surprised if his drivers would re-sign again.

Agreed with the above
BUT
let's not forget this site last week had TO going to the raiders next season and yesterday he signed a 4 year extension with the Cowboys

Roush - Yates joined up, so anything is possible.

I think Montoya could benefit by such a merger. he gets no respect where he is.
It might help him, he is a better driver than it appears.

June 3, 2008  01:23 PM ET

2 Losers don't equal a winner. Penske shows rare signs of possible contention, while Ganassi is a crossover from Open wheel that never made it. Penske would be foolish to drag themselves down even further by taking on these guys.

...and Montoya is way overrated! He is a little ego that HAS to see himself in the spotlight at all costs.

If you dont have a big ego........then dont drive for me.

this would be a horrible move for race fans and the sport, i am a big indy fan and i know that there are only three big names in indy racing, penske, ganassi and andretti-green. you put two of them under one roof, you leave two major teams, with one engulfing the other, and now you've got a monopoly of drivers and money in a sport that dos not need a monopoly. races will not be enjoyable any more, since you'll know who'll win every time...this would ruin indycar, i don't know about nascar, though.

Hate to burst your bubble but he has very little go when it comes to driving in NASCAR. He's willing to admit he is still on a learning curve. He is better than his finishes, but I suppose he'll still never get any respect from NASCAR fans.

Why does Scott have two fingers up? He finished first didnt he? Man, some people just dont know how to gloat.

Dodges are so far behind, except at the restrictor plate tracks and Kasey Kahne's.

June 3, 2008  06:49 PM ET

STP43FAN dodge does have the one team approach...................it is called gillette everham.........they roll the kasey kahne dodge out every week............... thats the one team dodge has

June 3, 2008  08:49 PM ET

They might as well shut-down indy racing under that case . Nascar is in the toilet as well ...I rather have a root canal if i had the choice to watch either race ...

Excellent story. Riveting, as they say.
