Rutgers relied on a familiar connection in picking up its latest football commitment yesterday, and may be able to thank one of the most famous names the program has ever had -- Ray Rice -- if it lands a coveted four-star recruit tomorrow. Mike Larrow, a 6-3 1/2, 250-pound defensive end from Union High School -- where former Rutgers star linebacker Brian Sheridan is the head coach -- became the sixth player to give coach Greg Schiano a verbal commitment for 2009. The next player to join him could be running back Desmond Scott of Hillside High School in Durham, N.C. Rated the nation's No. 2 all-purpose back by Rivals.com, Scott, a Rice-type back, is expected to choose Rutgers tomorrow at a press conference at his high school, according to Rivals.com recruiting expert Mike Farrell.

The beast of the East is being put together

I love everything Greg and his crew have done sine day 1...but can't they spruce their logo a bit? That "R" is from his Ramapo days and a bit blah....no ????

I'm a broken record about this I know, but if healthy, Kordell Young is the future of RU's success for the next two years. All other RBs in the program will be spectators (IF he's healthy). The Big East looks like it is an evenly matched conference in 2008...

To "JoeyHugs" - the Block "R" has been, and will continue to be, one of the greatest marketing tools in collegiate sports history and the single in Rutgers University history. In other words "it ain't going nowhere".

Totally agree Rutgers Yankee!! The block R has established an identity for the program. It is simple yet identifiable. The prior logos, including the knight holding his sword as the "t" in "Rutgers" just didn't hack it. Its all about keeping it simple. Rutgers has made more $$ marketing the block R in the past 6 years than the old logos did since inception, including the days when the Scarlet Knights were known as the Chantecleers!! (my spelling of that might be off).
