Why Augustin won't return to Texas

You can officially refer to D.J. Augustin as a former Longhorn. Augustin, who left the Longhorns after his sophomore season, has hired an agent, Thaddeus Foucher of the Wasserman Media Group. That closes the door on the slim chance that Augustin might change his mind and return to college basketball. Players who hire agents are no longer eligible in the college game. The Wasserman Media Group, headed by Arn Tellem, also represents former Longhorns LaMarcus Aldridge and T.J. Ford.

Real good player-
Smart for him to leave now-
his draft stock is pretty much set....whether or not he stayed another year
low lottery pick
- on a mediocre team, he may eventually start-
but on a good team would be a real nice back-up coming off the bench

Sucks for the 'horns but I knew this was coming. Good luck in the NBA DJ!

June 3, 2008  08:54 AM ET

With teams in the Lottery needing point guards he needed to stay in the Draft. He's going high.

June 3, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Dude has mad skills and is NBA ready.

June 3, 2008  09:01 AM ET

"He's going high."

His size IS a major factor unfortunately
I can't remember an NBA champ that had such a small starting guard

June 3, 2008  09:26 AM ET

come to the Knicks, we'll take him in a heartbeat to replace Steph

June 3, 2008  09:46 AM ET

The Knicks are about 2 players away from the CBA.

June 3, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Yes, he's small but he's going somewhere in the Lottery. That is what every NBA Draft projection has shown.

June 3, 2008  11:08 AM ET

Actually had to look it up and the shortest point guard I can think of who has won recently is Tony Parker and he is listed at 6 foot 2. So, I guess I can give JGB his point there.

Im from Austin and go to University of Texas and I personally like Augustin but never thought he had that go get it mentality,Not the smartest guy oviously.

what are you talking about. If you are from Austin and follow and go to games like me you would know that Augustin is an Academic All American with a 3.64 GPA in Education. He was one of the smartest athletes in college.

Seems as though your not the smartest guy.

Beside the point. He is a top 10 pick and don't fault him for moving on. Texas is not a mediocre team and we are at the point where we are reloading every year with recruiting. So we will be OK.

HE SHOULD HAVE CAME BACK.

June 3, 2008  05:29 PM ET

Augustine goes #7 to the LA Clippers
Bayless goes #6 to the New York Knicks
Mayo goes #4 to the Seattle Supersonics
Rose goes #2 to the Chicago Bulls
Westbrook #11 to the Indiana Pacers
Gordon #13 to the Portland Trailblazers

June 3, 2008  05:33 PM ET

Excuse me,
Rose goes #2 to the Miami Heat

June 3, 2008  11:09 PM ET

OK, now it time for duck stew. Now it REALLY time.

June 4, 2008  07:40 AM ET

I wouldn't touch Augustin in the lottery. Derrick Rose ate him for lunch in the tournament and he is more like what Augustin will be going up against on a nightly basis. Personally I don't think Augustin will last in the NBA.. maybe a good role player because he can shoot the jumper. But he needs to find a niche and get real good at it because I don't see him ever being anyone's starting PG.

Oh no doubt- (as I said in my 1st post at the top- )
