What was this, Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals or an episode of "Medium"? Before Monday night's game at the Joe, Don Cherry said on CBC: "Always remember, everybody: Beware the wounded Penguin." With four minutes left in the second overtime, NBC behind-the-glass reporter Pierre McGuire said Pittsburgh's Petr Sykora tapped on the glass and said, "I'm going to score." It took him till the next period, almost 1 a.m., but Sykora scored the winner that gave the Penguins a 4-3 win and a return trip to Pittsburgh for Game 6 on Wednesday. "You're a man of your words," McGuire said.

WOW, what a thread .. The entire team could have said "Im going to score" & those **** would have been amazed .. Can we please have a thread about how Fluery dives like a **** ....?

June 3, 2008  08:17 AM ET

How about all the awful penalties called on Detroit? What a joke. Detroit outplayed Pitts by a ton and should have won, but the Pens were given plenty of opportunties to win as well. Detroit will close it out next game so last night's victory means nothing in the long run.

June 3, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Sadly, Dallas went to the league about Detroit's messing with the goal tender and about three other things. Well, NHL rerfs are NHL refs. And the Pens ain't fools. And dis thread? If the whole team said "We are going to score!" you guys would be cursing the MFers for their talk. I think some people are crankier than the Wings fans. Haters?

June 3, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Trust me i cant wait til the Wings knock the Pens out!

June 3, 2008  08:38 AM ET

This is the exact opposite of how the Wings and their fans wanted this to work out. It was supposed to be: First two games the kids from Pittsburgh fought and we had games for the ages...then...the Wings domination of the first two games till they closed it out with their experience, talent depth and superior coaching. We have a series for the ages but it is really in reverse for the Wings. This **** is why I said the Pens were scary.

June 3, 2008  08:41 AM ET

I cant believe I stayed up so **** late and the wings couldnt win the damn cup!
Quit crying if the pens had lost everyone would be talking about what a huge d0uche he is.

June 3, 2008  08:44 AM ET

Diving, and 100 missed calls...I am not to sure it would have changed the outcome, but I for sure am pissed about the ref's blowing ever friggin call there was....the one good call was the high stick, but what about gill decking everyone after the play was dead....can we please have some real calls, and not the ones that saves the pens faces.....I cant believe they let calls like that go, but, well, here we go again, off the point....point is, we will just win it down there, and they will cry, alot....

when did fluery dive? i believe the biggest diving goalie in this series is definately ozzie. the only thing fleury did last night was stop 50+ shots on goal

June 3, 2008  08:49 AM ET

some of wings fans (not outofshapeandinjured) are real hypocrites, you know that? you talk about the pens whining every damn day but all i hear from you guys is wah wah wah we missed calls wah wah wah crosby dives etc. grow a pair.

June 3, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Another magic moment from an athlete.. funny.

June 3, 2008  08:54 AM ET

I've always hated that call.It seems the last couple of years if you have the puck or just shot it you can keep going and plow the goalie with no call....until last night.

June 3, 2008  08:54 AM ET

room to talk eh steel......can you honestly believe, that the goalie interference calls were correct? Honestly? really? ok, just wondering what game you watched!!!

June 3, 2008  09:07 AM ET

The goalie interference calls were somewhat questionable, but here's the deal:

THATS PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.

Referees make mistakes. No one is perfect. Flopping is part of the game and requires skill to pull off, so why denigrate it's relevancy?

The Penguins played with heart and intensity. Fleury was an absolute ANIMAL between the pipes. He had 55 saves for goodness sakes! Hockey fans were expecting a "dream" series.

Well looky look you just got one handed to you by Petr Sykora so how about everyone just calms down and talks about game six instead of rehashing calls we can't go back in time and change.

June 3, 2008  09:09 AM ET

I'm not a Detroit fan but both did seem a little soft to be calling in that situation. In the end it was a great game to watch, Fleury was amazing, there were posts and crossbars hit on both sides, obviously the Pens were dominated, but it just takes the one in OT.Looking forward to game 6.

June 3, 2008  09:14 AM ET

wings rule, fluery wasn't on the ice diving, he was still in the midst of stopping all the rebound shots before the call was made. if the refs called interference, although it was questionable, i don't really care because it gave us a pp opportunity. fleury didn't get tapped and start squirming all over the ice like osgood. he was still trying make plays.

pantherfan0728 | 06/03/08, 09:07 AM

It's part of the game? Explains why your a PENs fan...

I hope you weren't being serious...

June 3, 2008  09:17 AM ET

I've posted elsewhere on this, but consider that:
1. After the 2nd interference call, while laying on the ice, Fleury was intentionally kicked hard with the blade of a skate. Easily could have been a major penalty, with game misconduct to boot. No call. Not hearing any Wings fans object to that bit of poor officiating.

2. Gill hits late? How about Malone taking a brutal check that laid him out when he wasn't anywhere near the puck? No call. How about Talbot getting cross checked in the HEAD after scoring the tying goal. No call.

Face it, part of the Wings game plan is to charge hard, and hit hard, sometimes when they shouldn't. If you are going to crash the net and marginally interfere all the time, sometimes it WILL get called.

No one wants the game decided on a bad penalty. At the same time, you shouldn't want it decided on a goal where the goalie isn't given a fair shot at playing the puck. You can't have it both ways.

some of wings fans (not outofshapeandinjured) are real hypocrites, you know that? you talk about the pens whining every damn day but all i hear from you guys is wah wah wah we missed calls wah wah wah crosby dives etc. grow a pair.

the difference is that the fans are allowed to whine.. the players and coaches look like **** when they do publically...

as for the goalie interference... notice how both calls were made from the ref in the neutral zone... not the ones who watched the actual play happen next to the net. how can u make a call like that from halfway across the ice? the hooking call on the pens and the highsticking were penalties for sure. unfortuneatly it ended the way it did. but like the rest of the games in this series, its not a penalty if its done on someone with a winged-wheel on their jersey.

June 3, 2008  09:21 AM ET

It looked like a flop but I think when Cleary went hard to the net Fleury also fell back like that because he had lost sight of the puck and was just trying to cover the bottom of the net. I know I've seen Hasek pull stuff like that off in the past.

June 3, 2008  09:25 AM ET

evolv is right. He did it at least two other times in the game. Not flopping, just trying to cover as much space as he can with no clear sight of the puck.
