Why Broncos dumped Henry
At least Bronco fans will no longer have to feel guilty about cheering for their running back. Travis Henry was a friendly sort with a playful spirit, a ready laugh and a ton of talent. Yet, he had become a hard guy to root for. Henry was doomed by an inability to stay healthy on the field and avoid trouble off it. On Monday, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan announced he had enough and gave Henry his outright release. "The release speaks volumes," the coach said. "You've got the little things, and if you don't do the little things, obviously you can't count on somebody." Henry recently missed the first two weeks of the team's passing camp with a strained hamstring. He was supposed to start practicing Monday, but never got the chance. In retrospect, Henry was gone the minute the Broncos worked out an agreement last week to sign veteran running back Michael Pittman. By waiting until after June 1 to release Henry, the Broncos were able to defer most of their salary cap hit until 2009. Henry will count $1.2 million against the cap this year, $3.6 million next year.

I wonder if he'll ever play again. He's injury prone and has one more failed drug test until he's suspended for a year. I dont think the Cowboys would touch him. Oh well it looks like our tax dollars will pay for his 9 children food stamps.

Exactly 700 Level Lifer, you would think a guy who has to pay that much child support would have enough motivation and incentive to make that money. Travis Henry is a complete and utter jackarse, Shanahan went balls to wall for him last year after that suspension and I can't believe that the Broncos would easily give up on him without a valid reason. So Travis, go home, smoke some doobie and figure out if UPS is hiring, because child support doesn't take a day off. Those children did not ask to be here, so you better call the CFL or the Cincinnati Bengals, because you're gonna need some employment. One thing we know, child support doesnt care if you dig ditches or score touchdowns, if you don't pay, your arse will serve time.

The Broncos total payout for 629 yards from a running back for one year on a losing team?? 11.5 million dollars. ( last years money paid plus cap hits next two years).
Another Shanahan GM move....Just waiting for him to tell the world it was a bad idea, and it was all his idea.. Not going to happen..

I know some Bronco fan will say they only had to pay 6.7 mil really, but that cap money could have been used on players the team needs, Maybe they could have kept their MVP from last year- That would be Elam...He wqon a lot of games for them..

50yearfan,
You can't fault Shanahan for making the move to sign Henry. When he was signed a little over a year ago Shanahan was praised for bringing in a one cut runner who fit so well into the Broncos' zone-blocking system that a lot of analysts had Henry as a possible league leader in yards by the end of the season. Shanahan tried to set up his running game with the best runner built for his system. Are you trying to say Shanahan doesn't know what he is doing when choosing a RB for his system? I think History might prove you wrong there.

And why are you still locked on the Broncos not signing Elam? Saying that the Broncos should have signed Elam instead of going with another kicker is like saying you already know which draft players will be successful and which will be busts--you won't know what is a good move or what is a bad move until the season is played out. Yes Elam is statiscally better than any kicker the Broncos currently have(he was also one of my favorite Broncos). The game isn't decided by who did what in the past, it's decided by who performs on sunday. For all you know right now Elam might not be as successful as whoever becomes the Broncos next kicker.
--weren't the Pats statistically better than the Giants in almost every category? So why play the Superbowl then? I figured you might get the point if I put somethin about your gmen in there.
