Does Kobe have beef with Allen?

07:58 AM ET 06.03 | In 2004, after LA traded Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat, everyone had an opinion about the deal. That included Allen, who told Seattle sportswriters, "If Kobe doesn't see he needs 2 good players to be a legitimate playoff contender or win a championship in about a year or two, he'll be calling out to (Lakers owner) Jerry Buss that, 'We need some help in here," or, 'Trade me.' And we'll all be saying, 'I told you so,' when he says that." The Celtics guard, however, was in no mood to take a stroll down Memory Lane yesterday. He said those comments are four years old now, and that the only time the topic comes up is when members of the media drop it at his feet. "You (media) make it more than what it is, but we're in 2008," he said. "So it's a nonissue now. You can talk about it, but now you're making a big deal about it because you're asking."

shut up ray what did you do in your career only hit three pointers kobe has three rings

The only reason that selfish ball-hog Kobe has three rings is because he had Shaq. As far as Kobe is concerned there isn't any "I" in Team but there sure is a ME. He's a cancer that I wouldn't take on a team if he offered to pay me to play. No ring again this year will settle that debate once and for all. Any NBA player could have Kobe's numbers if they took fifty shot a game... I could for that matter

well...wasn't ray right? isn't that exactly what happened? so should they be questioning kobe on this and how what ray said turned out to be exactly what happened? and ray, instead of being mr. diplomat could have said "isn't that what happened? so why are you questioning me on this?" but instead chooses to call out the media on this to ensure he doesn't fire Kobe up. ray is a super intelligent/logical purpose. he makes moves like a chess grandmaster. big ups Ray.

Epoch, your hate is showing. Fact is, Shaq NEEDED Kobe to win those rings just as much as Kobe needed Shaq. Last I remember, Shaq was getting swept in the Finals with a much more talented Orlando team before he got to L.A.. Also, while Kobe was definitely cancer a few years ago, he's evolved into a well-rounded player who actually makes the players around him better. Then your quite stupid insane ascertion that any player would have his numbers if they took "fifty shot" a game is also ridiculous considering Kobe has joined Michael Jordan and Jerry West as the only guards to average 30ppg in the playoffs while shooting 50%, see numbnuts, if he's shooting 50% and scoring 30, he's taking less than 20 SHOTS A GAME. Kobe has brought most if not all of this criticism on him, I would never deny that and I've said many times that he and the fat prima donna Shaq denied the Lakers at least 2 more rings, but when are people like you going to let it go? Kobe has committed his sins, paid the penalty and came out a better person and a better teammate, so other than being a bandwagon Boston fan, what other motivation do you have to bash? Fact is, Kobe is the best player on the PLANET and he's going to remind you and that 3rd wheel that is Ray Allen of that. You better PRAY they don't put him on Ray Allen, because outside of becoming a great teammate, Kobe actually plays both ends of the floor.

Kobe is the Scottie Pippen of the Lakers cant win on his own. Moe please tell me you dont have a job that requires you to operate heavy machinery because you may have to take a drug test

Oh BUCKGUY that was so funny, did you write that?
So if the Lakers win the Finals (of course you do know they're in the Finals, right?), then I guess you'll have to take a drug test, correct?
Also, how many MVP's and scoring titles did Pippen win? Kobe just led his team to win the toughest conference in the history of the NBA, the #8 seed had fifty wins you simpleton.
You know what, you can't engage in intellectual banter with hate-filled doofuses, so why do I even try?
Fact: Kobe was a jackarse for many years in LA and does deserve criticism, but if you're so eager to jump down his throat, give the man his props for this season, this team is not in the Finals if he's shoot-first, screw eveyone else-Kobe.
Go read a book or something, you need the stimulation.

How would Ray know what it will take to win a championship? He better shut-up because I think Kobe told him he was going to drop 50 on him and did it or came very close.
Ray, Kobe doesn't need any extra motivation to busrt your butt so you are doing the right thing by saying it's a nonissue.
All you Shaq fan keep hoping he will return to a shell of himself. The Lakers made the right move by keeping Kobe if they couldn't keep both.

while i'll agree kobe is the best player on the planet.....it still doesn't change the fact. he is an absolute FRAUD!! it only appears that he has become a better teammate. he is still the most shady self-centered player in the game. dont' be fooled by his antics. kobe has just gotten better at saying all the right things; he's no different from from his days with shaq. it was just a year ago that he was throwing his teammates and management under the bus cause his team was garbage........MJ never did that. and now that his team is in the finals everything's cool with his team and management. what a fake!!
while all the critizism shouldn't be directed at kobe in the shaq/kobe fiasco. shaq has proven he could win without kobe. kobe has yet to do that. when shaq was in orlando he led his team to the finals only to get beat by 'the dream' that is hakeem. kobe has proven nothing since his post shaq days....absolutely nothing....except to whine and do his best MJ impersonations.
everyone knew what ray was saying was correct.....EVERYONE!! even self-absorbed kobe. kobe was just too arrogant to believe it and thought he could do it on his own.
Kobe is a absolute FRAUD AND POSER!

Here we go with the MJ stuff. You mean the Michael Jordan who ran Doug Collins out of town? You mean the Michael Jordan who consistently had runs with Jerry Krause? You mean that MJ? Please, Michael Jordan is the best player ever but don't be clueless nimrod to think MJ wasn't a pain in the arse either. This is the same Michael Jordan who threatened every member of the media in Chicago to ban them if they reported on his trailer-trash side piece he flew from city to city. I know that FOR A FACT because I lived in Chicago during the earlier 90's and the story has since came out. The only difference is that unlike MJ, Kobe can TAKE the criticism and isn't a sensitive little beeyotch like MJ was. Like I said, Kobe is not and never was an angel and did some excruciatingly dumb things, but the guy was young and everyone including Jerry Buss was kissing his arse, while that is not an excuse, it does give some insight. So despite all of this Kobe's focus has always been on one thing-winning and now they are on the verge of doing so and yet here come the haters.
You guys amaze me, but I will defend your right to your opinion.

I have always said it Kobe is the A-Rod of the NBA. Simple the best at what he does but dislike for reasons outsize of his profession. I am not a Lakers fan but Kobe is special.

i bring up MJ because kobe desperately wants to be MJ. everything he does is mirrored after the great one.....kobe can try to down play it all he wants but i think most can see it.....its almost creepy....really. we all know MJ was a demanding and **** of teammate at times. MJ has always been a true leader of his team. i cannot say the same for kobe. kobe is the epitome of a fraud and the by-product of watching too many MJ highlight and interview videos when he was a teenager!!
and we'll see if kobe can lead his team to the ultimate goal of championship. he has proven he couldn't do it on his own.....lets if he can do it now.

Oh please...here we go again. Does he media realize they're just fueling Kobe? Ray Allen is a nobody. The man is a miserable human being. Other than a mean 3-point shot, he's a scrub. He's a perfect example of players who dislike Kobe because they can't be like Kobe.

Yeah, well the fact that Ray Allen had to play against Kobe 4 times a year with the Bucks and 5 times a year with the Sonics got to his head because he was tired of getting served. Epoch can criticize all she wants even way after Lakers sweep the Celtics.

kobe doesn't need any additional fuel to light his fire. kobe will probably go off in the finals regardless of what anyone says, writes, or does. he is that good. the question will be if boston can do something to slow that juggernaut of a offense that the lakers run and if ray will come to play and at least provide the offense they have depended on him for during the regular season. and if KG would quit looking to pass 1st all the time and be the offensive agressor that he should be.....then boston can win this thing
