Avery You have chance
Now dont screw it up or you will be hanging out with Latrell Sprewell under a bridge on Ih 35 Next year

June 3, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Great! Now the pistons can break up just like the spurs will & these flopping teams that cant flop n e more wont ever win a title again i love it !

June 3, 2008  12:41 PM ET

I think Saunders is a good coach. Consider what he did with the talent, or lack of talent, he had with the Timberwolves. In the end, someone had to be blamed for failing again this season.

I wonder if any coach could have the Pistons past Boston this year. The team was put together by Joe Dumars. He needs to accept the responsibility of putting together a non-championship roster. Oh where they would be now if they hadn't blown their draft picks.

June 3, 2008  12:50 PM ET

Bad move by Dumars...he will regret it,Saunders led the Pistons to an impressive 176-70 record in 3 years...The Pistons have appeared in six straight conference finals, the first franchise to do so since the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. But they also are the second team in league history to lose in the round before the NBA finals three years in a row, joining the Celtics from 1953-55.

I know it sucks, but you have to look the big picture, continuity is the base to get to the next level...look at the Hornets,Spurs and even my Lakers(bringing back Phil)so I guess this is the end of that run by the Pistons, sad to see that ended that way....again,Dumars will regret it

June 3, 2008  01:10 PM ET

It had to happen. I think you still gotta move a starter. Unfortunately, there is no market for sheed, it might be best to take the cap space he will give us at the end of next year when Lebron et al are free agents.

June 3, 2008  01:32 PM ET

Not really a good choice. Pistons had too many injuries at the wrong time. They have so many up and coming young talent. They would improve greatly next year if they still had Flip. They probably needed to get rid of Rasheed instead to make the chemistry more better. Rasheed kinda disappeared when it counted the most and created too many contoversies. Maybe Avery Johnson can make this team back into a championship team. Dumars has that bayou connection w/ Avery.

June 3, 2008  01:54 PM ET

I agree, it's a bad move by Dumars. Should have stuck with Flip for another year and moved a few players instead. Pistons are starting to look like a "coaches burn and churn" franchise with the way they're going thru coaches.

Maybe Avery will get the job...as I think he might be a good match for this group. As long as he doesn't mind getting frired in three years by Dumars!

June 3, 2008  01:59 PM ET

Sources say that Curry will be getting the job later this week. Thus, it's likely changes to the roster are coming. You wouldn't give a championship team to a first time coach.

June 3, 2008  02:07 PM ET

I don't think Saunders should have been fired 176-70 over three years is great and I don't think the players stopped listening. They were just hurt at the wrong time and Rasheed won't just "shut up and play".

Ship Rasheed (I know that's harder) and keep Saunders and try again next year. That should have been the move.

June 3, 2008  02:15 PM ET

Hire Isiah hehehehehhe

June 3, 2008  02:30 PM ET

Maybe Dumars knows something we don't know. If Curry is going to take over then they probably still need to get rid of some of their troubled player(s). They have a good mix w/ experience and youth. Their bence is one of the best in the league and could even be first teamers. There is no need to tear this team apart.

June 3, 2008  02:31 PM ET

Joe should hire Isiah

June 3, 2008  02:40 PM ET

Its obvious that Flip had an NBA Finals or else deal going into this season. I am concerned about who they will get to replace him. If a veteran team tuned out an experienced coach like Flip what will they do to an inexperienced one like Curry, If they get Avery then that would be different.

June 3, 2008  02:44 PM ET

A COACH CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH THEY HAVE BEEN TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS WITH 3 DIFFERENT COACHES IN THE PAST 6 YEARS AND ONLY WON IT TWICE I GUESS NOT HAVING A TRUE SUPERSTAR IS REALLY SHOWING NOW.

June 3, 2008  02:46 PM ET

Dump Rasheed "No Show" Wallace, not Flip!!!!!!

Finally, something a Laker fan and I can agree on. Flip didn't have the tools to do the job. Without some "tweaking" to that roster, a new coach won't help.

June 3, 2008  02:50 PM ET

It is easier to replace the coach then it is to replace the players.

June 3, 2008  02:59 PM ET

I don't care what Flip Saunders record is, he should have been fired. The Pistons were already a very good basketball team when he got there, Larry Brown did a great job making them into a defensive team and Flip was supposed to come in and spark the offense to lead them to another championship. Dumars did his part by doing a reclamation project on the bench, which is an effective young group that 2nd only to the Lakers. The problem is that Flip has never been that good of a coach. He gets credit for the T-Wolves winning, but the reality is that KG was beast and Flip just tagged along. Only a bone head coach lets Tayshawn Prince and Chauncey Billup guard Lebron one on one as my Cavs made their epic run to the Finals last year. Popovich is a great coach and the first thing he did was decide to assign 3 Spurs, not just Bruce Bowen, to stop Lebron. The result was the Spurs sweeping the Cavs and winning a championship. THAT WAS GREAT COACHING AND IT IS THE SAME THING THAT LARRY BROWN WOULD HAVE DONE. As a matter of fact, it is exactly what Larry Brown did when they beat the Lakers 4-1. He triple teamed Kobe and dared Shaq to average 40 points per game to beat him. Shaq didn't and the Lakers got embarassed.

The question for the Pistons now is who should they hire as head coach and do they keep their starting 5 together. I think their time with Sheed is done. If they can find a solid deal they should trade him. He was completely embarassed by KG in the Eastern Conference finals and has never lived up to the immense potential that he has. He has so much talent, but not once did he average 20 points and 10 rebounds. His best season was his first in Portland when he averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds, but he never duplicated those numbers. The Pistons had a good run with the current squad, but its time to break it up. I think they need to focus on rebuilding around the backcourt and trade Prince as well. Maybe they can package Prince and Sheed to the Bulls for the Number one pick and noah. Sheed would give the Bulls an immediate post presence, if they can convince him to stay down there rather than shooting so many jumpshots, and Prince immediately makes them better on the defensive end. The Pistons could use the pick to draft Beasley who is bound to be a consistent 20-10 guy for the next 10 years.

I had a feeling this was coming but I thought since Dumar was an intelligent person he would see the BIG PICTURE. Flip is not the problem - The elephant in the room is Sheed! How can he look at the last 2 Playoff runs & seriously say Sheed has given 100% to the TEAM. Sheed forgets he plays on a team and it's a total effort he is completely out for himself with those 3 pointers going now where..... The only way the picture will change is if he gives the next coach competely control to kick their butts & make changes on the roster, if he doesn't then just forget it. This I believe was a huge mistake but Flip is a good coach & I'm sure he will land on his feet with a team that everyone is on the same page - to win!!
