Disgusted Dumars threatens trades

Joe Dumars is in charge. And Joe Dumars is not happy. "I was disgusted," he said of the performance by his Pistons in Games 3 and 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. That was clear Tuesday, when Dumars broomed Flip Saunders out as coach. And the exit door awaits at least one of his starters. "I'll make a significant trade," Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations, declared. "... We have a core group of guys here that for the first time in six years I'm letting teams in the league know I'll do a deal. ... I'm open for business."

Maybe not but the Spurs are....getting old without defending their crown.

June 4, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Every year that goes by that they don't win it all decreases their chances of winning it all next year.

This roster needs a shake up. The players need to know their spots are guaranteed.

June 4, 2008  08:22 AM ET

When Dumars says he's open for business that means he'll either trade Rasheed for young players with a future or trade two or three starters for a superstar.

June 4, 2008  08:22 AM ET

Look for the Pistons to be in the Finals next year. Joe Dumars is serious and does not play.

June 4, 2008  08:49 AM ET

The problem is the pistons have been settling. They got too excited about being the big fish in a small pond. They won a championship in 2004 and didnt do much else. dont say making the Eastern Finals when you have FINALS talent.

Dumars needed to shake things up a couple of years ago when guys like T-Mac or AI were available

Trading Billups and Sheed can help if you get something back in return

People keep talking about the Spurs not defending their crown, how many teams can say they won four titles in nine years. I bet your team can't ay that so stop hating on the Spurs.

Well my team is the Celtics so technically they COULD say that, if we go back far enough. But I won't do it. What the Spurs have accomplished is impressive. Really I don't know what point that guy is making by following around a complete stranger and mocking his every comment only because of the team he likes.

June 4, 2008  09:27 AM ET

I agree with Dumars. The Pistons used to be a team I loved to watch. They were exciting and agressive. Now it seems like none of them have that passion for winning. Especially Rasheed...he plays when he wants to and Billups isn't hungry enough.

June 4, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Teams peak. They peaked. Time to shake 'em up. I'd keep Prince and Hamilton. They are unique talents. Everyone else would be up for grabs ala Ben Wallace.

But would you let Billups go I say start with sheed maybe trade the CAVS and try to get Big Ben back

June 4, 2008  09:35 AM ET

This is an either/or situation. Fact is, the players didn't respect Flip Saunders like they did Larry Brown, because whether the Pistons like him or not, Brown COMMANDED respect where Flip came off more like a car salesman. I don't condone the veteran players not listening to him, but it clearly signaled that he was not the right man for the job. The Pistons as they are constructed right now, are good enough to win the chip, they just need the right coach. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest Avery Johnson, he's been to the Finals, he made Dirk Softy a little tougher and he preaches tough smart basketball. It looks like Curry will get the job, but if the players didn't respect Flip who had never been to the Finals, how will they react to a first-time coach?

CEL,

He seems to be trying to get you heated up. Do the right thing. Nothing.

Billups is tradable, Rasheed isn't. He still has problems with the refs (I think he was one technical away from a mandatory suspension again this year), he's moody and he tends to disappear in big games.

I'd trade Billups and I don't think Dumars wants Big Ben back. He was too one dimensional.

Moe Syzlak |
--------------------------------------

He's family so they'll be respectful, even helpful during the regular season, but in the playoffs they'll tune him out and do whatever they think is best on a given night.

Rasheed is the one who will go-
he is too much of a head case - sometimes here, sometimes not....
He doens't play in the post anymore- which at 6'10 with skills is where he needs to be......NOT on the perimeter

You DON'T trade a solid point guard- that would be foolish, who's going to come in ?

Rip has value-
Prince has value-

McDyess is irrelevant- should be a BACK-UP

Max will start- gives you energy at the PF
