SEC proposes national Saban rule

The SEC is proposing national legislation that would prohibit its head football coaches from going to high schools during recruiting's spring evaluation period. Current rules allow head coaches to visit high school campuses from April 15 to May 31 to evaluate high school juniors. But they are prohibited from having significant contact with recruits. Alabama coach Nick Saban recently got into hot water when published reports had him engaging in extended conversations with recruits in south Florida. The SEC would like to take its coaches out of that position.

Saban is a lying weasel with zero credibility.

June 2, 2007  08:59 PM ET

Alabama sucks, we all know it, and not even Saban will change that! Oh, and that's the only way Bama will win is by cheating, so why should you even be surprised? How many times have they been penalized by the NCAA? They will never learn.

June 2, 2007  09:01 PM ET

Does Alabama claim another national championship everytime Saban is the the newspaper?

June 2, 2007  09:51 PM ET

You poor little "Saban Haters" are such mindless little fools.

Your football teams are losers much like yourselves, so you have no where to go but up.

Maybe when you come out from under the rocks where you hide, real people will take you seriously.

Roll Tide Roll.

A true fan shouldn't try and be little a coaches tactics. Yes BAMA has be fined and they payed for their actions. But what some people don't look at is, who was the coach that done the deed. You can't tell me that other teams are not currently or have done the same thing. But you only want to bring up Alabama. Get over it. Saben has done well with other teams and just because you hate him, doesn't mean you should bash him or Alabama. Give the man a chance. We will see when the season begins. Besides A REAL ALABAMA fan doesn't worry to much about the season as long as AUBURN is set home crying. ROLL TIDE

Coaches like Saban always try to skirt the rules. They go by the letter of the law and to hell with the spirit of the law.
Bamers will ride on his bandwagon just as long as he delivers wins but watch out when the SEC losses start. I suppose I am hoping that he will fall on is face being an Auburn fan. Remember how Alabama fans felt that Shula would return them to the good times? Thing is he would have if they had given him a fair amount of time. Saban and his bodyguards are setting up for another big time fall.

has that even happened this decade?

June 4, 2007  08:19 AM ET

O.K. newmaj2, **** that hurt.

But, recruits will still line up to sign with BAMA just knowing who the coach is.

They will not feel shorted if they don't get to see him from April 15 to May 31.

June 4, 2007  02:14 PM ET

Alabama isn't going to win crap, with or without Saban. Expectations too high, talent too low. He'll lose AT LEAST 6-8 games in his first 2 years (whether he cheats a little or not) and then Bama's brainless boosters will run him out of town. End of story. Bama fans: Stop drinking the Crimson Kool-Aid and get real.

June 4, 2007  02:28 PM ET

I am so tired of hearing, "Shula would have been great if he would have been given time." Please... Someone that says that never watched him coach. A 26-23 record over four years speaks for itself. If you watched any of the games with plays like "Darby up the middle" you would know that the record over those four years should have been much better with smarter play calling. I'm sorry, I always respected Coach Shula and thought personally he was a great guy but a head football coach or play caller he is not. I wish him all the luck in the future.

You can tell the bammers post instantly. Immediate deflection and redirection when they are called to the floor. Get real bammers - without cheating your team has been relegated to the insignificant column. Saban or not, you can't change the fact that the vast majority of your 912,809,312 "championships" are the direct result of cheating. The old drunk started a 'tradishun' alright, looks like Saban is keeping with it.

June 4, 2007  08:14 PM ET

That old drunk you are refering to, just happens to be one of the most respected coaches of all time. Like it or not that is just the truth. All of you are talking like there is no chance for Saban to win at The University of Alabama. The season hasn't even started yet. I will be the first to say that there still remains alot to be proven by the staff. But, at the same time, if this past season's recruiting class is any indication of what the man can do in a limited amount of time...........there seems to be a big up-side to having more time and a winning season...or two. The tradition is there, the support is there, the facilities are there........and some of the best HS recruits yet to come out of Alabama are in their soph. and jr. seasons. If he wins, and I for one believes he will, a giant will be awake again. That's the truth, love it or hate it.

If Alabama was so irrelevant and other fans weren't worried about Saban winning, there wouldn't be so many comments from rival fans on here.
