Ogden to announce retirement

The next week or so should be interesting for Ravens fans because a number of decisions will be made. Look for Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden to finally make it official and announce his retirement. Ogden has let a couple of people around him know that he is retiring, but still hasn't told head coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens, though, aren't expecting him to return anyway.

He be the shrewdest shopper and a real mauler on the field. The buffet at Cactus Willies in Westminster can breathe now. You are still the best

Larry Allen?

What a loss for the Ravens. You can't replace him with just anybody. Good luck to Ogden though. He has earned every penny he ever made from them.

C-Smith, are you seriously saying that Larry Allen is as good or better than Ogden ?

No doubt is he the best of today's generation. Definitely would put him ahead of Johnson and Pace. But I would hesitate to put him ahead of Munoz, Slater, and some of those guys. Still an amazing player and definitely one of the best to play OT ever.

yea c-note, Munoz & Slater were awesome, those are 2 names that C-Smith should have mentioned instead of Allen.

" I'm so glad we had this time together just to block or kick some ass - seems we just got started and before you know it - I've retired to the past '"!!! A great player !!!

Larry Allen?"

When did Larry Allen play LT?

June 4, 2008  11:20 PM ET

Allen was a LT full-time in 98, and half of 99 before being moved to left guard. Part of the reason he's considered one of the best ever is that at some point in his career he played RT, RG, LG, and LT, and made Pro Bowls as all except RT (which he only played for his first season as a starter).

Here's a good read if you want to get some player perspective on how good the guy was:

You can't really put him in league with the best left tackles of all-time since his time at that position was very limited, but he is without question one of the best offensive lineman ever.
