David Tyree's job in danger?

David Tyree's catch in Super Bowl XLII forever guaranteed him a spot in team lore. But it may not have guaranteed him a spot on the 2008 roster. Yes, as bizarre as it may appear, the man who arguably made the best play in Super Bowl history could be scuffling to make the team this summer - if his knee allows him to scuffle at all. Imagine the furor if the Giants announce they have cut one of their biggest heroes from their incredible championship run. Yet when the team took the field for its third Organized Team Activity session Tuesday, a host of young receivers lined up behind veteran Amani Toomer - arguably the best player on the field, making three outstanding catches. Steve Smith, whose late-season contributions were key in the title run; Domenik Hixon, the kick returner whose receiving potential remains untapped; Sinorice Moss, the so-far disappointing second-round pick in 2006; and third-round draft pick Mario Manningham all have legitimate shots at making the team.

His special teams play keeps him on the team. Moss will be traded for a pic next year before they let Tyree go. Not a bad problem to have. A lot of teams wish they had receivers they hated to cut, most have receivers they hate to keep but have to.

Tyree earns his money on special teams not at WR. He just happens to be listed and plays as a backup WR.

Payback? Why? Just because Tyree was in on the luckiest play in SB history allowing the luckiest team in NFL history win it doesn't mean we go after teams like the Cowboy haters do. We leave that stuff for the adolescents then we go after them.

Ha ha. I first read this and for some reason it popped in to my head as a Patriots thread. Gotta pay attention. Either way, I don't hate on the Giants I hate on the gridirons and the "I is the man" weinies.
