Pistons' big-name stars may be traded

Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace are the most likely Pistons to go. Richard Hamilton and Antonio McDyess are most likely to stay. Tayshaun Prince falls somewhere in between. Dumars talked Tuesday about a lack of urgency in his players. Billups is as responsible for that as anybody. Dumars surely wants a renewed emphasis on defense, and Billups is the weakest defender among starters. Other teams will want Prince for obvious reasons: He is the youngest Pistons starter (28), he has a reputation as an elite defensive player, and he is versatile. But at times in recent years, Prince has not lived up to his defensive reputation.

Maybe there is a fan throwing Gummi bears to him from the stands

June 4, 2008  08:15 AM ET

He's not hungry. He's watching footage of that Pistons-Spurs finals from a few years back and it's so dull it's making him sleepy.

June 4, 2008  08:18 AM ET

package sheed , tay, and a draft pick or two for a premier scoring big man.

You could have Billups, Stuckey, and Hamilton to run a small 1, 2, 3, and it leaves a big guy (Brand/Amare), Maxiel, McDyess and Amir to fill in th front court. You would have 5 consistent scorers on the floor.

The other thing we could do is try to grab a superstar. As hard as it is to say it, it is a superstar league. The NBA changd th rules after the 2004 championship, making the Pistons type of team much less effective (especially when the playoffs start).

Billups can't go! That would be the biggest mistake in Pistons history!

June 4, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Rasheed has to go....he is a great talented player but very hard to deal with,I love his intensity but sometimes he forgets to keep it under control...Saunders paid the price for 'Sheed indiscipline...As far as Billups, trading him will be a big mistake... to be honest, who really wants to coach a team when players don't listen and they just believe in themselves? Their egos are too big that they want to "coach" themselves....now if Dumars is as tough as he sounds, why he doesn't coach the Pistons? just give it a try and see if it really looks that easy...just saying...

Pistons need to do something.. that team needs a wake up call...

sounds like he is pretty much going to if he hires curry. He will have much more say than if he brought in a coach like Avery or even Porter.

goblue15 | 06/04/08, 08:29 AM

Try telling that to the Celtics.

June 4, 2008  09:24 AM ET

The only problem with thinking about trading Sheed is, who wants him? He is nearing the end of his career and he carries a lot of baggage with his blow ups. No one is going to give up anything of worth for the timebomb that is Rasheed Wallace.

June 4, 2008  09:27 AM ET

I think there are very few "untouchables" in the NBA today. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant (although his mouth could case one) and Steve Nash. Trading these players would cause fans to vomit. I think everyone else is negotiable.

" think there are very few "untouchables" in the NBA today......and Steve Nash"

why is Nash 'untouchable' ?
He is getting older, they haven't gottenintot he finals WITH him and they have Barbosa in the wings......
He likely has 1-2 solid years left

He would be an EXCELLENT tradng piece to a team that needs a point NOW to win......

I agree, but like I said I don't think the fans would support the trade. The backlash might be too much. He isn't "untouchable" because he's irreplacable he's untouchable because he's been "sainted" by the fans and media.
