Tigers may draft Vols QB recruit
Casey Kelly, a standout shortstop and pitcher from Sarasota (Fla.) High School, worked out for Tigers officials in Lakeland on Saturday. He spent his time fielding and hitting, which offered a strong hint that Detroit would prefer to sign him as a position player. Two rival scouting directors said the Tigers are very interested in taking Kelly with their first-round pick, but there is a potentially significant hurdle: Kelly has committed to play football and baseball at the University of Tennessee, and it could take a large signing bonus to keep him from heading to Knoxville.

Nice to see we're not the only ones who lose great QB recruits to the MLB draft. I can still picture Joe Mauer in a Garnet and Gold jersey...

How good can this kid be...THE Florida Gators didn't even give him the time of day. By the way, Joe Mauer made the right decision in playing baseball. he was smart to stay away from that "Den of Iniquity", a.k.a. Tallahassee.

The Gators got football and basketball. They aren't known for their baseball. UT has produced a number of good baseball teams over the years. It will be a loss for the baseball team. I doubt he would have been an upgrade for the football team.
Also this story reminds me of Todd Helton. Except I don't really see a Peyton Manning on the other side of this one.
