Shockey to make appearance

Jeremy Shockey is supposed to be in Flushing Meadows Corona Park for a paid appearance for a sports-drink company. If he indeed shows, that's a promising sign as far as his expected attendance Wednesday for the start of the Giants' mandatory three-day mini-camp. Shockey, as usual, has refrained from participating in the off-season workout program, preferring to stay in shape in Miami. This year, Shockey is rehabilitating following surgery to repair a broken leg and ligament damage in his ankle as a result of an injury suffered Dec. 16 against the Redskins. The majority of players since March 31 also have been working out at Giants Stadium. Monday is the sixth and final voluntary Organized Team Activity practice and, if he's in town following his promotional appearance, perhaps Shockey will make it to the field for the first time prior to the mini-camp.

June 5, 2008  06:56 AM ET

Keelee- don't even bother. the haters will be silenced

June 5, 2008  07:33 AM ET

Since he arrived, people have been telling Shockey to just shut up and play. Now he says nothing for months, and people are in a frenzy.

You can't win. Jeremy will be there, he will not say anything, and he will play his ass off. End of.

June 5, 2008  07:35 AM ET

Far from a Giants fan, but I'm sure he'll show up. There's too much money you risk to lose by not showing up and playing.

June 5, 2008  07:45 AM ET

JJ they are talking about him coming to a voluntary event not the mini-camp.

And Keelee ignore Bond his day is not complete unless he is one of the first haters to drop in to almost every topic.

I can't believe Giants fans are defending this guy - it's not like he did anything to help you all win the Super Bowl. If I recall, he was sitting in a box during the game instead of being on the sidelines with the team? And then didn't even show up to get his Super Bowl ring with the team? And spent a good part of the offseason trying to get to New Orleans?

Why do you want someone that doesn't want to be there? Is it the flowing mane of blonde hair? The American Flag, Bald Eagle tats?

Sounds like a mancrush!

June 5, 2008  08:29 AM ET

C-
Not really a suprise that a 'boys fan wants Shockey gone. As far as being in the booth during the SB and not on the sideline I believe, and i'm not 100%, that the coach's did not want anyone but the players suited up for the game on the sideline's. I agree about the ring thing, why was he not there? Also, it's not that he does'nt want to be there, he just wants the chance to get the ball more. I think when he gets the ball they do better, more of a well rounded offense that way.

By the way, he cut his hair a long time ago.

the guy is pro-bowl TE. yeah he runs his mouth a little too much sometimes. but when healthy he's undoubtedly one of the games best. he'll be there come minicamp time and if not the hell with him we go to his back up. everything's lovely for the world champs!!

Well for me it's a girlcrush, but real Giant fans know that the team is better with Shockey, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs without him and that he is a valuable member of the team.

The rest is all media hype and hayter ****..

"Shockey to make appearance"

Is this because he didn't show up last year?

June 5, 2008  04:10 PM ET

He's like Elvis.

June 5, 2008  05:44 PM ET

Damn,Bond, do you wake up early just get on here and spout some dumb ****? or all you up all night waiting for the chance to show people how little you know? Stop being a hater and get a new hobby.

Now here's a great example of someone who is confused and has no idea what they're talking about. First of all, Shockey kept quiet for most of the season and didn't blow up like he did in years passed. Second, he contributed heavily before he broke his leg in the Redskins game at the end of the season, which is why he was "sitting" in a box at the SB. With the pain associated with a broken leg, you pretty much don't want to be standing on it, especially with crutches b/c that is annoying having them under your arms all the time. He didn't show up to get his ring b/c he's been working his tail off trying to rehab his leg and get back in time to start the season. As for "trying to get to NO," they were the ones that were pursuing him, not the other way around. No matter what you say about him, he's still a tough player that brings a lot of passion and intensity with him on the field and it rubs off on other players. That is why us NY Giants fans want him on the team!

And just to show how confused C-Smith really is, read his bio below:

"I grew up playing basketball and baseball, and it wasn't until high school that my real love for football started. Sure, I was always a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, but in high school I actually started to study the game. I would love to be a defensive backs coach in the NFL one day, but without any credentials that one might have to stay a dream. I also follow the Atlanta Braves, and after the decline of the Jordan-era Bulls, I became a floating fan of various NBA teams. You'll always find me rooting for my hometown Wizards over anyone else, though."

So, let me get this straight. You live in Georgia and are a "lifelong" Cowboys fan, but not a Atlanta Falcons fan? You do; however, like the Atlanta Braves. And now, you no longer like the Bulls b/c Jordan is gone, but you "root for your hometown Wizards over anyone?" Are you a fan of these teams b/c the Cowboys are tied for most SB victories or that the Braves have been very dominant in the 90s and early 2000s or the Bulls won 3 straight championships and had the greatest player of all time on their team? You really are confused.

June 5, 2008  10:39 PM ET

Team Distraction.

June 6, 2008  01:27 AM ET

I like watching Shockey play, but seriously, not even being on the sidelines when your team wins the superbowl shows him to be a bit of a pouty baby. Boss is not as explosive but at the same time, he gets the job done and is an excellent pass blocker. Whatever, we'll see what happens in the upcoming season.

What part of 'HE HAD SURGERY AND WAS ON CRUTCHES' don't you people understand!

You are all dumber than Shockey. Now that's saying something.
