Cowboys give Glenn ultimatum

The Cowboys want receiver Terry Glenn on their team. But an NFL source said the Cowboys have told Glenn to either sign the $500,000 injury waiver for his surgically-repaired right knee or prepare to play elsewhere. And that time is growing short for Glenn's decision. Glenn is due $1.74 million this season. By signing an injury waiver, if he injures his right knee at any time, that $1.74 million would be nullified and he would be paid a pro-rated $500,000. If he was to suffer any other injury other than to his right knee, he would be paid the full $1.7 million.

He got $5 million for about four plays last year. Do the right thing Terry...sign the injury settlement.

Damn, so much for his assertion that HE'S the better Cowboys reciever!

The love.......Morning KP!

Yeah he might be better off signing the injury settlement...if you come back and play great, then great, we work on a contract extension. If you get hurt, great, you still get some cash and nobody's angry.

June 5, 2008  07:57 AM ET

He's done

June 5, 2008  07:58 AM ET

I've never heard of a player getting that clause put into their contract. Now they need to add a clause that pays these $90 million dollar rookies minimum salaries when they don't live up to their expectations.

June 5, 2008  07:58 AM ET

Looks like Glenn won't be playing for the Cowboys in '08.

June 5, 2008  08:01 AM ET

Glenn can't pass a physical. Who else would go out and sign him? Jerry did him right last year, even after he ignored the medical team and didn't get the micro fracture surgery. Usually I'm on the player's side, but Jerry did alot more for him than most teams probably would have.

"Now they need to add a clause that pays these $90 million dollar rookies minimum salaries when they don't live up to their expectations."

Totally agree - those rookie salaries should start out at minimums and only increase with performance. If in your 5-year contract you play to expectations, you make all your money in year 5. If you're a super-bust, like 50% of the top 10 picks are going to be, you make nothing and the team takes no cap hits.

June 5, 2008  08:09 AM ET

Hurry up and sign before your knee falls apart. Get some $$ now, get back into playing shape and see what you merit next season

June 5, 2008  08:10 AM ET

I don't really have a problem with the rookie salaries, but I think they should only guarantee 10% of it. Like for Matt Ryan's $72 million contract, only $7.2 million should be guaranteed. Make him earn the rest..

June 5, 2008  08:35 AM ET

I wouldnt sign that contract............its BULL. He deserves a higher minimum than 500K. With his experience and prep for the season that is an insult.

June 5, 2008  08:49 AM ET

I wrote a blog about this yesterday, check it out.........

Theyre not changing his salary. If he hurts his right knee, and gets placed on IR, then hell only make 500,000. If he stays healthy or hurts anything other than his right knee, hell make 1.74 million..

cant blame jerry for this. most owners would want something like this too

June 5, 2008  09:34 AM ET

If Glenn honestly doesn't have faith in that knee, he won't sign it. The Cowboys are hip to the fact that his chances are slim to finish the season with a degenerative knee condition and they want to protect themselves. Smart business move on their part. But Glenn holding out is evidence that he is unsure how long he can last before that knee gives out. If he knew that knee would be okay, then it wouldn't be a problem to sign the waiver and go out and EARN that money unlike last season.

Hooah05 | 06/05/08, 09:10 AM

"Woes" thats putting it lightly. As decent a WR as he may be (or have been) i wouldn't want to sign a guy coming off knee surgery. Too much risk

June 5, 2008  09:39 AM ET

Yeah, that's true too. He's really an idiot for not having the proper surgery because the team would have supported that move and would have expected him to sit out all season. Could have been an integral part of the team today. What some guys are thinking is beyond me.
