Holt kidding about Carolina move?

The remark was launched with a smile, but it rattled through the NFL. St. Louis receiver Torry Holt, speaking at a charity golf tournament this spring in Raleigh, told TV station WRAL: "I wanted to just send in my resignation to the Rams and see if I could join (Terrence) down here." Safety Terrence Holt, Torry's brother, joined the Carolina Panthers during the offseason. Both men grew up in North Carolina and played at N.C. State, and both love the area. While Torry's reunion comments received considerable attention at the time, they were primarily passed off as humorous banter. But Tuesday after Carolina's offseason training activity workout, Terrence wasn't as quick to dismiss them.

Might just be the papers making a story out of nothing, but he would provide a much-needed boost to the receiving corps on the Panthers.

Oh, and how about that first comment? Whoo!

Smith and Holt? Nice That would be fun to watch. Now they need a QB to get them the ball

June 5, 2008  08:09 AM ET

Ain't that the truth. Jake Delhomme was pretty much the ultimate flavor-of-the-month QB for them.

Dont forget Mushin is back. The Panthers have multiple third choice receivers but not as big as Holt. Wow - would be awesome but I doubt will happen.

For the sake of arguement, IF this did happen would it make them the best WR duo in NFL right now. I would say yes, with Moss\welker 2nd

June 5, 2008  08:55 AM ET

What about Boldin/Fitzgerald? Holt can still produce but he aint getting no yunger. I think the Cards have the 2nd best WR duo..

June 5, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Jake is a good quarterback but he throws the ball high every pass so unless these guys can catch passes that are over their heads like Smith and Moose prefer then they would make no difference to this team

June 5, 2008  09:40 AM ET

He was kidding around.

June 5, 2008  09:41 AM ET

He would be a nice fit

June 5, 2008  10:39 AM ET

Good point BuckGuy......he likes to throw it short too, and those two are magicians at keeping the defender over running while they reach back.

June 5, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Harrison/Wayne would still be the best duo IMHO.

Aww, how cute, I want to play on the same team as my brother back home. It's almost as cute as when Ken Griffey Jr got to play on the same team as his dad!!! WTF

June 5, 2008  01:12 PM ET

He was testing the waters...

June 5, 2008  01:59 PM ET

He's not going anywhere for a while.......

June 5, 2008  02:45 PM ET

I agree

June 5, 2008  03:01 PM ET

Here is what I think: There is some truth to what he said. Holt would love to finish his career with his brother but he is under contract and he will play it out. Holt has always been the kind of player not to throw a fit over contracts. I remember how he said that as a rookie he willingly took less than he wanted because getting to camp on time was the most important thing for him as a rookie. He said he knew the Rams would repay that gesture when it came time to resign and he was right. History tells me that he will honor this deal until it is through and if his brother is still in Carolina when it is up he might just go there for less money. I can't blame him but I will hate to see him leave.
