Senior Charles Pugh, a projected starter at safety this season, was dismissed today from the West Virginia Mountaineers football team for what Coach Bill Stewart said in a news release was a violation of team rules. Pugh was expected to surrender to authorities this afternoon after being notified that university and Monongalia County police were bringing felony charges against him for the theft of debit and credit cards last week from a car parked at the Mountainlair garage. He became the fourth Mountaineers player -- including the third potential defensive starter for the 2008 season -- to be dismissed by the new coach since February.

I am surprised that the kid didn't blame Rodriguez since that's what seems to be the MO of WV these days....that is blame Rich for everything.

Pugh...another thug recruited by Rodriquez. RR has little character like many of the players he recruited.

wvu1980

don't forget that Stewart also recruited this kid. All of RR's coaches have to sign off on a recruit before being offered.

ooops, don't you look like the fool!

Warden, I agree. I am not a RR fan, but this is ridiculous. Sounds like ND, blaming all bad things on Ty and giving him no credit for Brady Quinn and others. ND vs WV, in a WWE whine off.

The Warden is intentially lying, misunderstood something he read, or is just a complete idiot. Show me a single shred of evidence backing up your claim that RR's coaches had to sign off on their recruits. Or show me your proof that this kid was recruited by Stewart.

You know what? You can't.

oops, don't YOU look like the fool!

Rich Fraud was trying to take over EVERYTHING. You really think he wanted to take the time and effort to get every single assistant coach to sign off on each recruit?

Give me a break!

Enjoy your upcoming 6 win season.

Go Bucks!

Im a WVU fan and I don't blame RR for this. No matter how "good" or Bad" your coach is there are always bound to be some bad seeds that come along with almost all programs. Its good to see Stewart not putting up with this kind of thing. But a situation like this is maybe not as easy as it would seem; because there is always potential for a legal issue dealing with students and a university to turn into another Duke lacrosse fiasco. In conclusion, I don't care about RR nor do I want to talk about him, whats done is done, its over and life as a WVU fan will go on.

Dayton Bomber,

At the most current Coache's clinic at Michigan, RR was quoted as saying, "With every kid, his film will be watched first by his recruiting coordinator, then the position coach, then the offensive or defensive coordinator, then by Coach Rod. All four have to sign off on a kid for him to be offered." This was transcribed by a blogger who attended and recorded RR's comments.

Granted this is at Michigan but I'd guess the same thing was done at WVU.
ANd granted that my remarks about Stewart signing off on the kid was tongue and cheek to goat the other poster, the fact remains that a kids character is sometimes overlooked if the kid can play football. It happens with all programs even Michigan. And the fact also remains that since WVU waslimited with the type of kids they were able to recruit several years back, they sometimes did take kids with questionable characteristic to build a competitive team. Now that WV has built a solid program, they can recruit many more areas where they weren't able to before because of their winning program.

WTF is a dayton bomber?
Roller Derby?

June 5, 2008  11:28 AM ET

And how can you blame ANY coach for what some kid did?

They are kids

period

Were you a saint when you were in your teens?

June 5, 2008  11:36 AM ET

You don't blame either coach, you blame the kid, simple as that.

June 5, 2008  01:43 PM ET

Score update:

RR's Laywers + 4,000,000

WVU - 4,000,000

June 5, 2008  01:44 PM ET

and isn't a coach also an 'educator'? Glad to see RR chose to pay his laywers instead of WVU.

June 5, 2008  03:04 PM ET

While I do agree that college kids do stupid things (present company no exception) this is a little more serious than a minor transgression. I don't want to rush to judgement against this kid but these are "felony" charges. Stewart did what he absolutely had to do and I respect him for it.

The right way or the highway!

June 5, 2008  06:09 PM ET

Wow UM guy making fun of WVU guy. Seems UM picked up WVU's garbage in form of RR. You'll need a warden, warden.

June 5, 2008  06:15 PM ET

Piratebuck,

Please let me know where you reside and I will be sure to have you privately escorted to one of my 5 star prisons that I over see. Make sure you have plenty of soap on a rope! :P

June 5, 2008  06:17 PM ET

Wow, a homophobic remark...how original Warden. Got any more new ones?

June 5, 2008  06:22 PM ET

Just remember, Pacman and Chris Henry played together for RR. There's a pattern here. Guess now he's coahing mighty Michigan only upstanding kids will be recruited?

It will be interesting to add a questionable-character guy as a coach in this already storied rivalry. More fodder for the cannon.
