Ricky embraces Fins conditioning
The Dolphins are in the 11th week of a strictly regimented off-season program. Most of it is voluntary but is strongly suggested. Ricky Williams has yet to miss a workout, coach Tony Sparano said Wednesday. ''Within his individual drills, I see the guy working hard to get better,'' Sparano said. ``I think the guy shows up each day, and he has a purpose when he practices. He wants to get better at something each and every day. When you sit down and talk to him, he'll tell you those things.'' This year, Williams said, he is excited about the potential of sharing carries with Ronnie Brown, who Williams claims is ''like a brother.'' The two have been bouncing information off each other all offseason in a selfless way that has caught the coaching staff's attention.

Hey...Ricky want to smoke some weed? Fire it up my brother. Ricky want to run....give him the ball and see the boy run. Plain and simple. Parcells must be in love?

We will never know how great he could have been and the blame is all his, but it's a shame none the less.

Not to make this too political, but the idea of a non-performance enhancing drug resulting in all of those exiles form the NFL is, at least, partially to blame. I believes Williams himself has said he didn't always have the passion for the NFL, but I think he also said that marijuana helped him get through the grind. So in that sense, were the NFL to have allowed marijuana, maybe Williams could have performed as well as everyone expected of him.

Since the beginning of his off the field issues, I have believed in him the entire time and never talked bad about him. While everyone one else doomed him, I always supported him.
I have said it over and over that Ricky is no different then someone else who has personal issues and addictions. Now a days it seems everyone has a issue.
He has always been a good man, and it will now start to show that this man's athletic ability and personality will help the Dolphins move forward in a positive direction.

I don't know if Ricky ever really wanted to be an NFL player. I know he had the physical skills to be in the NFL, but I don't know if he had the mental will and desire to compete..

I just hope Ricky hangs in long enough so Ronny can completely heal. The Fins have two potentially great running backs that won't be because one lacks the full passion and the other gets hurt all the time. Put them together and her have a limping pot head.

Not sure if that post was sarcasm or not ^, but Booker is an Eagle now.
Anyways, I think it's nice to see Ricky (at least apparently) putting forth an effort. Whether it's because he's broke or because he actually wants to achieve something in the league this season remains to be seen, but based on these and other comments I've read about him recently, Ricky might've actually turned over a new leaf this time (probably not though).

"So in that sense, were the NFL to have allowed marijuana..."
Yeah, and if my employer would do the same, we'd never get anything done around here either. Whether you like it or not, it's still an illegal drug. Professional sports can't change that. If you can't stop smoking weed for the 5-10 years you have to set yourself up financially for life, then why should anyone have any pity for you? The only reason Ricky is falling in line is because he needs the money and he knows his time is running out. Teaching yoga classes doesn't pay quite as well as being an NFL running back does.

I just hope he keeps it together long enough to make it to the game versus the Bills in Toronto in December. I think it'll be kinda cool to have seen him here with the Argos (however briefly) and then back in the NFL with the Dolphins

Oh, I won't argue that point at all. Its illegal, Williams got busted for using it (multiple times), and he then got booted from the NFL (multiple times). My point was only that, as others have said, as an entertainer, Williams was physically amongst the best but his mindset wasn't there - not like a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or anything. He couldn't handle the demands, physically and mentally, of being a star. I don't think that's really a big deal. It's his life, not ours. Sure, we all feel a little robbed, as fans, about any star entertainer who leaves early or otherwise doesn't play to their potential - i.e. Barry Sanders. But not every player wants to be in the NFL Hall of Fame. That's why we have overachiever and underachiever tags, and so forth. All that said, we allow athletes to pump themselves with steroids or hormones or whatever they can get away with - and a lot of athletes take advantage because they want to entertain us as best they can (because that means celebrity or the Hall of Fame or money or whatever). Williams seemed willing to go through the motions of being that pro-bowler, HoF candidate but he needed help. The help he chose was marijuana and, silly as it is, getting caught using marijuana gets you booted from the NFL.

I think he wants a couple more million to go smoke up... this is all a way to get more money so he can live like a normal pothead forever off a couple years in the NFL.. puff puff give Ricky let me introduce you to Chris Henry and Odell Thurman i think you have some things in common

Chris Henry is a stupid chump, and Odell is a simple thug. I wouldn't put Ricky in this category AT ALL.
Big deal if he wants to roast the nug. Good for Ricky. I doubt he cares about entertaining fans. He wants to make a living and blaze the Cheeba.
