Reggie Bush lawsuit put on hold

Posted: Friday June 06, 2008 07:44AM ET

The civil lawsuit against Reggie Bush and his parents has been put on hold until Aug. 1, when a San Diego judge will consider a motion by Bush's attorneys to settle the case through arbitration. This latest bout of legal footwork postponed a Thursday deposition of Lloyd Lake, who is suing the New Orleans Saints running back over an alleged business partnership that Lake claims began when Bush was still playing for USC. NCAA and Pacific 10 Conference officials want to know if Bush received improper benefits from the erstwhile sports marketing agency while in school, which would be a violation of rules. If the former tailback is ruled ineligible, the Trojans football program could face sanctions.

Bush received imporper benefits is the same thing as asking 90% of the US if OJ killed Ron & Nicole.

Recieving improper benefits? Nah, couldn't happen, on second thought , could it?

That's great how Lloyd Lake is trying to sue Reggie Bush for a business partnership that began in college. That's like a junkie trying to call the cops on a dealer who shorted him.

Report Offensive Comment

How 'bout 'em....

Did you not read the story to realize that Reggie the Rectum now admits he settled with the other business guy for 300K when he denied it before?

Bush's lawyers are doing a good job in delaying this. I hope the judge denies arbitration and this all comes out under oath.

Again, for someone that says nothing happened and that he's innocent. Reggie "On the take" Bush is acting like he's guilty as sin (which we all know he is).

If he had played at FSU, or any Florida school for that matter, everyone would be screaming that "Thug U" crap, but at USC..."How were the coaches supposed to know", "That Lake guy MUST be lying", "Where's the evidence?", "He's already in the NFL, so why should USC be punished now?"

What a bunch of crap. Reggie Bush is a fungus, and USC fans SHOULD be embarrassed, but they don't seem to be.

"Arbitration" = "Facts disclosed in hearing doesn't see the light of day." = no NCAA sanctions to USC.

I'm real embarrassed... My team is 76-14 under the brilliant Pete Carroll.

All you Reggie Bush/USC groupies really need to stop frolicking to these bogus USC posts... And OJ Simpson... Man everyone knows he did it!

Arbitration? Didn't Reggie say he and his parents never received a dime and they weren't guilty of any of the accusations?

Any plea should include returning the Heisman Trophy, he didn't deserve it!

Hillary, please just go away!

#1Trojan - you know the routine. everyone wants to knock off the team on top. hence the reason why I will never hire anyone from a state school. lake missed his third deposition.

Hillary - quit while you have a shred of dignity left.

I hate to agree with a Nole, but you're 100% right on. I'm surprised that Bush left U$C. How much of a pay cut did he take in the NFL -vs- U$C?

USC fans will never be embarrassed by anything the great Petey Carroll does, they have no dignity, they have no class, they have no respect.

Hillary...I am not a USC fan but I have to disagree with you. The USC program has always been greatly respected and it has a rich history. What they are facing now is the decision as to what it will take to maintain their current run of success and what they are willing to risk to do so. Notre Dame was in a similar position in the late 80s and 90s with Lou Holtz. (They had won an NC in 1988 and were knocking at the door for a few others). I believe however that the people running ND didn't like the direction things were going (several off field incidents) and decided to tighten up on recruiting. The football program is still trying to recover (and compete). It will be interesting to see which way USC goes in the next couple of years.

I'm sorry...I didn't vote for you either...

Report Offensive Comment

I wonder who pays USC more, Addidas, the Saints, or USC, I guess We'll never know.

Report Offensive Comment

The difference with USC and ND is that ND saw that there were problems and took unpopular steps to correct them to include letting several players go. With USC we see no accountability whatsoever, no institutional control. Just denials which are now falling apart which leaves USC in an awkward position because they knew these agents and such were around, they were at the practices!

Total agreement, Marin.

No way anyone will convince Hillary or any of the others drunk on Trojan Haterade that Pete Carroll and the USC program had nothing to do with it. I'll call it the Patriots syndrome, for apparent reasons. Now for a couple of questions for Hillary:

USC is one of the schools that's richest in football tradition in the country, and a draw for top H.S. recruits. What makes anyone think that wouldn't draw people wanting to take advantage of those players? How exactly does USC bar the staff of agents from public practices, or deluded wannabe agents like Lake? How do they even know who agents' staff are? Do you seriously think that an agent would jeopardize his future chance at other prospects by letting Pete Carroll or anyone else in the USC administration know about gifts to one or more players? Do you think Bush didn't have a discussion with Lake or somebody else about keeping those gifts as quiet as possible?

I don't condone what Bush did, though ultimately I lay the majority of the blame at the feet of the agents. No matter how you paint it, these kids who've never been liquid in their lives all of a sudden have the good life wafted under their noses.

As far as penalties (and let me say here I pretty much buy into Lake's story), I don't believe the football program is at fault or should be penalized. If the NCAA wants to take away Bush's Heisman, so be it. In the end, I think he deserves it.

You can call me a homer all you like, I've been a Trojan fan for around 35 years. But I also have a sense of reality, unlike some others I could name.

No way a fan whose handle is LSUrocks could be a Trojan hater. Couldn't be.
