Jagr waiting for Rangers offer
Jaromir Jagr felt the love from Rangers fans during the playoffs. He has been feeling it from Russia for months, what with Anatoli Bardin, the GM of the Omsk-Avangard team, having courted him heavily. But what Jagr appears to be waiting for is some sort of comparable affection from Rangers GM Glen Sather. Jagr told the Daily News again Thursday that his first choice is to return to the Rangers for next season but he is not sure whether the feeling is mutual.

1 or 2 more years. Get it done, Slither. Or you could give Wade Redden 7 million a year. How about that?

I find it kind of funny that Rangers fans - no personal offence intended here OtherOne - have completely forgotten how much they wanted rid of this guy during the season this past year. I mean, he came out and admitted that he half-a&&ed most of it, to "save himself for the playoffs", which was bull. If he had wanted to save himself for the playoffs, he would have pulled the same stunt as Neidermayer did. He just didn't feel like playing until he realized that the Playoffs were his last chance to cash in with another contract this off-season. So, go ahead and sign him, Rangers, and go through another frustrating season of watching him play when he feels like it. I'll predict we start hearing the complaints by the 3rd week of the season...

In the past, I had no love at all for this guy.. he was a moneyplayer trhough and through.. but recently I've beginning to kinda like him.. according to a couple of friends of mine, who also are friends of some of the Swedes on the roster, Jagr is a class act in the locker room and a really light-hearted guy, which somehow doesn't suprise me..
1 or 2 more years, that'll be enough!

Sign Jagr short term, then they should try to lock up Hossa.

"I mean, he came out and admitted that he half-a&&ed most of it, to "save himself for the playoffs", which was bull."
I mean, I really don't care that he admitted he dogged it for a part of the season. He's 36--please tell me you know something about hockey; anyone at that age doesn't give it their all throughout the entire season whether they admit it or not. He admitted it and I respect him for that. IDK about you, but I wouldn't be satisfied with him pulling a Shanahan, having his mind outplay his body, only to have no gas left by the end of round 1.
I want him putting up points when it matters--down the stretch and into the playoffs. He was the leading point-getter up until elimination. If that means he isn't going to go flying head-first into the boards to beat an icing call or slow things down a bit during a game here and there, so be it.
I would have less respect if he pulled a Sellane or Niedermayer (if he did the Rangers probably don't make the playoffs). How can you have a problem with Jagr saving himself for the playoffs and no problem with those two guys?
I was not opposed to a trade this season, but nothing went through. I'd like him back for 1-2 years.

He was in a contract year. I'm sure he realized that at the beginning of the season.

yeah, I'm sure he did, but he knew he could get away with mailing in 80 games, only to show up for 10 and pull the wool over the Ranger fans' eyes.
I have NO respect for Neidermayer as a result of what he did, but I sure don't have any for a guy who dogs it either. At least Neidermayer wasn't collecting $8 million to dog it, he chose to not collect his paycheque instead, and THAT cheque is why Jagr didn't sit out. Why take what you don't earn? Well, that's been Jagr's M.O. for most of his career.
A 36 year old who doesn't take games off, and doesn't ever take it easy? Hmm. I'll go with Nick Lidstrom. Or Chris Pronger. How about Mats Sundin, as much as it pains me to give a Leaf credit? Kris Draper? Joe Sakic (though hurt all year, nobody claims HE takes shifts or games off). I'm sure I could list more, if I had more time.
His putting up points when it mattered sure didn't seem to matter when they were sent home in the 2nd round, again.

You come back naming defenseman when you (should) know they have longer careers. You know you can't dog it on defense, don't you?
As for Lidstrom, Detroit had quite a bit of defensive depth so I'm sure he saw a bit less ice time. He never dogs it but he's one of the best ever. Still, a defenseman, not a forward.
Mats Sundin didn't dog it but what good would he have been in the playoffs had the Leafs made it? Maybe he did so well during the regular season because he knew his team wouldn't make the playoffs and was in a contract year? BTW he only had 7 more points than Jagr.
Joe Sakic had a great season but was nowhere near as effective for his team in the playoffs as Jagr was.
I'll ignore that snyde second round exit again remark ;) Because that has nothing to do with what we disagree about

gocanada- Keep in mind that none of the players you mention are their team???s first option offenensivly. While the Rangers had some OK seasons from their young players, none will be a lights-out offensive At 36 years old Jagr is the Rangers primary offensive threat (pretty sad reflection on the Rangers organization if you ask me), and still draws #1 defensive pairings and Selke-type defensive forwards.

Will the real Jaromir Jagr please stand up? And has anyone had a more checkered career? He establishes himself as one of his era's all-time greats in Pittsburgh, comes to DC where he turns into a loafer, blaming his lackluster play on the break-up with his girlfriend and leaves for the brighter lights of NY. I didn't see him in the regular season but he looked pretty inspired in the playoffs. Given his past, if what goCan says is true, then it sounds like he's a risky propostion.

Farily or unfairly, it's tough to shake a rep once you attain it - just look at Crosby and this diving thing. Jagr, fairly enough, attained his bad rep with us.
He came from Pittsburgh with huge expectations and a salary to match and just played uninvolved, uninspired hockey for the duration of his stay. I saw him live a couple of times, he looked like he was skating hard but didn't seem to be around the puck all that much. I'm not a technical expert on this sport so it's hard for me to explain but he just didn't create much offense. As I said above, that did not look to be the case at all iduring these playoffs and looked like a very dominant, predatory player.
And I like your idea above, I think Jagr and Hossa together could make NY very dangerous next year.

tigger made a solid point, except Sundin and Sakic ARE their teams' #1 offensive options. Sakic lead the Avs in points this post-season, as short as it was for them.

With all due respect I don't think we should judge a player by his expectations in regards to his contract(s). This is coming from a guy who's favorite team's GM signed Holik to a long term deal and put Christian the softest defenseman in the world Backman 2.5 million on the books this season.
If someone is stupid enough to give you more money than you deserve, you'd be an idiot yourself not to take it.

If Jags has any sense of pride or any concern about hockey history, he'll re-sign in the NHL. If plays for 4 more years and averages 75 points per year, he'll pass Messier for #2 all time leading scorer.-

I'm sure Jagr dogged it at some point through the season but, I don't think their is a player out there that hasn't. No way would Sather have put up with the same antics that Neidermayer pulled by staying out half the season. He would have been gone.
Hopefully he returns somewhere. He still has some gas left in the tank.

Finally some sense on this board. There are 20something year olds that dog it (i.e., Malkin: "I'm tired") and when a 36-year-old Czech admits it, and it was for the best of the team, these Canadians & Pens fans get all uppity about Canadian pride. Lame.
