Who's next Big East commish?

Mike Tranghese, just the second boss in the Big East's 29 years, announced yesterday he will step down next summer. Tranghese considered resigning five years ago but knew he couldn't once the league's future was in jeopardy. Despite the turmoil, the league has been so solid that there isn't even a policy in the league manual that addresses selecting a new commissioner. No one from the ACC need apply. Dan Gavitt, son of the league founder, is a potential candidate, but the eight football schools might want a person with more football expertise. Louisville AD Tom Jurich also is the chair of the Big East ADs. Nick Carparelli, Jr., the Big East associate commissioner for football, is considered a rising star but it could be dicey for the presidents to name him over Gavitt.

That's more St. John's job JGB and not the Big East but I share your sentiment.

The B-Ball side of the conference is way too big. The problem is that the schools they could drop are some of their cornerstones. Seton Hall, Providence and even St. John's are all out of place in this new Mega Big Easat and that's a problem.

I'll take the job - reluctantly !!! I have been involved in the Big East since it's inception. I will work for less put more time into the job and take the Big East to another level !!! Sincerely, Me

Either have a split conference in bb, or else tell Nova if they want to stay with the big boys in football, they had better step it up, cause they will be left out in the rain, when the football schools form their own conf.

The conference needs to split. The BB league is too big and the football is too small. Bring in Dayton....Memphis... or maybe Marshall for both sports.
