Grizzlies owner questions Gasol deal

Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley is tired of criticism for the giveaway, er, trade that send Pau Gasol to the Lakers for cake-tossing center Kwame Brown, rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton and future draft picks. But he told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports that General Manager Chris Wallace might have waited longer before pulling the trigger with the Lakers. "I don't know if I got the most value," Heisley said. "Maybe our people should have shopped [Gasol] more and maybe we would have gotten more, done a better deal. Maybe Chris did call every team in the league. I don't think he did but maybe he should've . . ."

You think? You gave Gasol for nothing pretty much. Atleast Minn. got a 20 & 10 player back for KG..

But don't forget they now have the rights to Pau Gasol's brother!!!

duh

Look at the bright side Heisley, your team has an excuse for playing poorly. You can use the Gasol defense while the Lakers can use the Bynum defense.

win-win

I've been questioning that trade since day one. Ok so they get cap room with Kwame thats cool but why another rookie point guard and those draft picks are going to be trash.

I'm sure Jerry West had nothing to do with that trade.

It's a little late to be having this conversation don'tcha think? LOL

June 6, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Too late Memphis owner, **** and keep on, keeping on stinking it up with your miserable team!
Question the deal.....6 months later dude!? Come on now!

Uhhhhhh, Duhhhhh!!!

There was a big debate yesterday whether Isiah or Riley was the worse GM.......
I stand corrected.
At least wehn Isiah gets fleeced, he picks up some talent (granted they are either old, fat or stupid)

coming from the franchise that drafted bryant "big country" reeves, are we really shocked by their horrible moves? i think the memphis tigers have a better team than these guys

June 6, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Why does the Memphis GM still have a job

June 6, 2008  09:49 AM ET

I think people forget that the Grizzlies were in the playoffs just two years ago. They had a bunch of guys that could play. They had Gasol, Posey, Bonzi Wells, Swift, Battier, Mike Miller... Wow, where did that team go?

June 6, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Gee, are you sure you didn't get equal value in that deal? In other earth-shattering news, it turns out that the SF Giants now think that they may have overpaid for Barry Zito, and apparently the Pistons think they may have erred by taking Darko with the 2nd pick a couple of years back.

Pure GENIUS

June 6, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Pure genius on the Lakers part. The Lakers will be in the playoffs for years to come with Gasol.

While the Grizzlies will be...will be...will be able to plan early vacations for years to come!

June 6, 2008  10:15 AM ET

I can just see the board meeting now....Wow, shopping around for a better deal. Why didn't we think of that before we tradde Gasol!!!

June 6, 2008  10:44 AM ET

I'm wondering if Crittenden will end up working out.... he left college too early.... a big problem these days.... but he's got some talent.... not saying that it wasn't a horrible trade, but just wondering if it might not look so bad two years from now...

on the bright side, he got more out of Gasol than Babcock did for Vince Carter. At least he got picks and a young player
