An accused drug dealer who allegedly sold hundreds of OxyContin pills to a New England Patriots lineman is old pals with another player and was a longtime political aide to an East Boston lawmaker, the Herald has learned. Daniel Ekasala, who faces charges of peddling the addictive prescription opiates to hulking Pats player Nick Kaczur, is also a childhood friend of former Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins. The two grew up together in East Boston but Ekasala's lawyer, Bernard Grossberg, said his client hasn't talked to the player in years.

June 6, 2008  08:55 AM ET

pats are starting to look like they need some orange added into their team colors.

If it's not one thing it's another....and another....and another...

Cheating isn't NEW news here.

June 6, 2008  09:20 AM ET

Another story about the PATRIOTS??!! This is a non story... Good thing for the other teams.. I am sure they do not do anything... right.

June 6, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Why isn't there a T&R on the steroid dealer in Dallas that fessed up NFL players to the feds being shot under strange circumstances ... bigger story than this retread ...

You got that right! Roger, are you listening?

June 6, 2008  09:37 AM ET

The headline is misleading. Wiggins hasn't played for the Patriots since what, 2002? He went on to play for other teams after that. This is just another pile it on the Patriots story. Enough already....

June 6, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Now they're talking about childhood friends. What kind of rag is the Boston Herald?

June 6, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Jeeze...this is bad, of course, drug deals are always bad, but childhood friends? Yellow journalism.

June 6, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Yeah, one of my best friend's wives knows Bobby Engram.

What's up NOW, Ekasala?

June 6, 2008  10:51 AM ET

The Pats are Catholics from Boston. Can't we excommunicate them from the league?

They are really tiresome. Remember, beware when the hero becomes a bore.

June 6, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Yeah, where is the article on the murder/murder or murder/suicide in Texas? Has that guy already overstayed his 24 hour news cycle? Sad.

June 6, 2008  11:06 AM ET

one of many totally ignorant T&Rs...

June 6, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Why isn't there more responsible journalism on this site called "truth & rumors"

June 6, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Why do Boston papers have such a vendetta against the Pats? As if drugs of all kinds are common throughout the NFL and every other professional sports league. What's driving this?

June 6, 2008  12:38 PM ET

This calls for a congressional investigation as soon as we can!

June 6, 2008  12:41 PM ET

I dislike the Patriots for cheating and hope that they do poorly this year, but even I think this is about as much as a non-story as you can get. I knew a lot of people when I was a child and I don't know what 90% of them have done in their lives. This was a low blow but the journalist (for lack of a better word) got us talking about it so he thinks he did his job.
