Former U.S. Under-20 national team defender Neven Subotic has made the move from Mainz 05 to Borussia Dortmund, the club reported on its Web site Thursday. Subotic was an anchor in the back for Mainz this past season and has now reunited with former Mainz manager Juergen Klopp in a transfer worth a reported $4.6 million. U.S. soccer sources have told SBI in recent weeks that Subotic is still on the fence about what national team he wants to play for (he was born in Bosnia and raised in Germany and the United States).

He should play for Germany we don't need him. Undecided players like him need not to play for America baby!

Sang-froid...

June 6, 2008  11:19 AM ET

Undecide means NO ONE has called him

June 6, 2008  12:35 PM ET

if he's so good, then go play for Germany. We don't need a cry baby here. It's bad enough the kid born and raised in Jersey went to the Italians. Next thing you know a Japanese kid born in California, goes to play for the Japanese National team. Damn Axis Powers are getting back at us for WWII. LOL.

"Undecide means NO ONE has called him" I agree with that comment. OH yeah the Germans are getting ready for this little tournament so you won't be needed, but maybe the World Cup LOL.

June 6, 2008  02:21 PM ET

Nobody is going to call Guissepe Rossi either. I give that kid little to no chance of ever getting a cap with the Italian team. Should have stuck with the stars and stripes.

June 6, 2008  02:47 PM ET

Yeah, no one wants him now because he isn't on Germany or Bosnia's radar... and everyone will be **** and moaning if he actually makes a difference on one of their squads. I would be more than happy to have anyone who can contribute in a positive way and raise the bar for my club/team.

June 6, 2008  03:17 PM ET

Yip.
We need NO Rossi, No Subotic, No Nothing....this guys live in America, families are in America and they want to act like they dont NEED to play for the Stars and Stripes let them go bro...We dont need them, I rather see as fail with what we have than to beg thses dudes like they have accomplished much...Let them play for Italy, Germany, Bosnia, Japan, etc... We'll be aaaight!

June 6, 2008  03:17 PM ET

these guys***

June 6, 2008  03:39 PM ET

Good move for the kid. The Bundesliga is solid.

June 6, 2008  04:02 PM ET

You can't complain about the poor play or talent pool of the US and then say "we don't need them". We need 20 year old central defenders playing in big leagues and being brought on by big teams. Borussia Dortmund is a storied team which is regularly ransacked for great players.

Those saying we don't need someone like this should **** about Bocanegra, Gooch, and our other centerbacks.

June 6, 2008  04:14 PM ET

Attitudes like the ones mentioned above eliminates practically the entire soccer program. The US program needs the transfusion of immigrants and their kids. To say "we don't want them" has to be the dumbest thing I ever heard. We need them.

Plus let this Rossi thing go already. He left here when he was 2. He doesn't know the US or owes the US anything. If he wants to play for Italy, a place where he has lived for past 19 years. then it is his RIGHT.

June 6, 2008  05:55 PM ET

Agreed JHova. The Rossi debate is stale. I do find it funny his father still coaches HS Soccer in NJ, but thats me. Even funnier is if Jozy and Rossi were teamed together at Villarreal.

I think you will see more 'immigrants' in the fold. More so, I think they are making an effort to get out of the burbs and find urban players who have a bit more style and individuality. I have watched a good amount of U17, U20, U23 US natties and I think they are headed there. MLS is gonna help with this too. The Sueno competition is allowing players like Jorge Flores from Chivas get his chance and play some good footie, as he has 3 goals in 4 games.

What we can't do is allow people to get away like we have, especially when they have a chance to play for Mexico, which has happened a few times in recent years. Nothing like letting your chief rival build their pool because you 'don't need them'.

The Bundesliga has some great teams:
VfB Stuttgart
Bayern Munich
Werder Bremen
FC Schalke 04

June 7, 2008  08:30 AM ET

we need this dude and we need rossi.

June 7, 2008  08:42 AM ET

why the lamenting? It is just the usual story that a kid with immigrant parents has to decide for which team he wants to play and decides to play for his parents home country - or where he was raised. Happens all the time in europe and nobody **** about it. The Croatian team has some of these. Hamil and Hamit Altintop aren't the only ones in the turkish team who were born and raised in Germany or some other country.

So shut up. That kid has to decide between a good chance to play in a looser team or a lesser chance to play in a good team.

Hard decision.

June 7, 2008  09:44 AM ET

I say yank his US passport. Anyone who cannot play for the US national team should not have US citizenship in my view. World cup soccer (and citizenship) is a joke when people shop around for teams to play for. Remember what happened in Mexico with Franco? He got his Mexican citizenship right before the 06 world cup then 5 minutes after the cup ended he moved to Spain, what a joke.

June 7, 2008  09:44 AM ET

He'll be on the radar soon enough if he gets any playing time with BD.
Peter Nowak should get this kid involved with our U23 team next chance he gets. Let's push him to lean towards the US.
If he works out, great. If not, at least we tried.

June 7, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Too bad MLS can't keep these youngster and develop them and then sell the to Europe, that's what we needed

ROSSI moved to Italy when he was 13...

when Parma offered him a youth contract

Then he moved to Manchester 4 years later, he only stayed in Italy for four years

But his parents were Italian immigrants, he can paly for whomever he wants

June 7, 2008  02:24 PM ET

I really wish I can see these kids MLS before they leave

June 7, 2008  10:52 PM ET

The level of play isnt the same we all know this, we could use another young defensive prospect alongside spector, wynn (mark my words he will make it), and Gooch still has time to mature and develope i think he might be 26 now. Rossi wants to play for Italy, I hope they dont cap him ( with the way it is looking they already have some very good youngsters in Serie A 17 year old inter starlet Balotelli, they also have Nocerino, and Inquinta isnt to old
