Why Rangers dumped Ponson
Citing a lack of respect for teammates and the club, the Rangers suddenly severed ties with No. 3 starter Sidney Ponson on Friday. General manager Jon Daniels declined to reveal specific reasons for the decision but said of Ponson: "He had disrespectful and adverse reactions to situations that were unbecoming of a teammate." According to the sources, however, problems began to fester more than a week ago when the Rangers were in Tampa Bay. The night before his start against the Rays, according to sources, Ponson was seen late in the evening in the hotel bar. The next day, he lasted only five innings and allowed 12 hits in a 7-3 loss. Club officials spoke with Ponson, 31, about comportment after the incident and reiterated the "one-strike" stance they took when they signed him in March. In essence, the club said it would cut ties if he had one behavioral issue.

He has pitched well at times but we can go on without him although it will hurt the bullpen.

It is the right move. If he broke the rules laid out when he was signed you can't blame the Rangers. He should try to turn his life around like teammate Josh Hamilton. What an amazing story he is.

Ponson put himself above the team and the Rangers don't abide that attitude. All they asked him to do was behave himself and adjust his pitching schedule to deal with situations as they came up and Ponson couldn't bring himself to be a teammate and do what he was told. It is too bad that another team like the Astros will probably give this guy a contract later this season and he'll dump on them too. Ponson needs to go back to Aruba and drink himself to death or find his manhood and act like a man. Loser.

This transaction as officially released by Texas was the most bizarre thing I have ever read in the transactions section of a newspaper sports section.

What an idiot...he looked like he was getting his career back on track and had some good outings. I seriously doubt anyone will be taking a look at Mr. Ponson....except for a VERY desparate team like the Yankees, lol.
