Steinbrenner backs Yankees GM
Hank Steinbrenner wants Brian Cashman to stick around. Having spent the past few days with him at the first-year player draft in Florida, Steinbrenner has informed Brian Cashman he wants him to return next season as GM of the Yankees. The organization's co-chairman said the sides are "a ways away" from announcing a contract extension, adding "there's a good chance" such an agreement will not be done until after the 2008 season.

Honestly, who cares what Steinbrenner "thinks". Really, isn't that an oxymoron anyway. Hank should just write the checks and keep his trap shut. Let the real baseball minds take care of the baseball side of operations and let him sign the checks. I'm Empire for life, but I'm really dreading this new era under him.

I hate to say this- I am a Yankee fan-
but Cash really hasn't done anything wothy of any praise-
OBVIOUSLY you can't argue with the run of a decade + in the playoffs.....
but in yankee country, with a 200 MILLION payroll - CHAMPIONSHIPS is the only thing that is acceptable
He inherited the title teams of the 90's.....(did have some good acquisitions)
But he has MISERABLY failed to get a true #1 starter
Has consistently FAILED to put together a quality bullpen- (Mariano aside)
Our Bench has been ABYSMAL over the last few years
He has been good with the media & was a good buttress between Steinbrenner & Torree.....but I really don't care about that-
Are we WINNING or NOT

Cash had nothing to do with those WS teams! What has he done to get anyobody to help them? the past 2 drafts, that he so badly wanted to control, have been awful . Brackman still hasnt thrown a professsional pitch, and wont till 20009, and the kid they drafted in 1st rd this week will either end up at UCLA or wont help for 5 years or so! Look at Texas, they managed to find Milton Bradley and Josh Hamilton this year, arguably the two best OF in baseball right now. When was the last time Cash did anything like that?

never mind Cashman...How many games is it going to cost us by putting Joba in the starting rotation...It's already cost us ar least 2...

Never mind Cashman...How many games will it cost us to have put Joba in the starting rotation...I count 2 so far...What was the hurry?...Why could'nt they have waited until next spring?

Cashman can be replaced, no doubt. IT would be nice, though, if he could be replaced with a very competent indicvidual - because leaving the mighty Yanks in the hands of the Steinbrenners with no buffer zone would be tragic.

I think Cash is ok.........certainly not in the 'upper echelon' of GM's
In fairness- we will NEVER know how much he inputted or was just a 'front' for George & the Tampa contingent........

Well, another big win for the Yanks today, DESPITE the pitching problems. Geise comes out of nowhere to pitch perfect innings. There just isn't going to be a miracle every day like in the last few, and if there is, it doesn't look like Joba's going to provide it. Maybe it was a mistake to take him out of the pen in the middle of the season...but then again, maybe Geise is the answer!

I just fail to see how for the last few years we have failed to bolster the bullpen when there were plenty of arms available...(Ron Mahay 2.20 ERA, Scott Linebrink 1.38 etc..) and gone with the likes of LaTroy Hawkins and Kyle Farnsworth...who can't seem to get anyone out...I almost would rather have Scott Proctor back....
