Heat listening to trade offers

With several lottery teams expecting Chicago to pick Derrick Rose at No. 1, a rival executive who spoke to the Heat said Miami couldn't justify not taking Michael Beasley at No. 2 ''because he's a major asset'' but also said the Heat isn't discouraging trade inquiries. The executive said the problem with trading down to take USC guard O.J. Mayo, who is working out for the Heat this weekend, is that Minnesota (which picks third) and Seattle (fourth) don't have attractive assets they're willing to offer, noting the Wolves' Al Jefferson and the Sonics' Kevin Durant and Jeff Green aren't available. ''Memphis at No. 5 would be the best trade fit,'' the official said, though Mayo might be gone.

I actually think Miami should consider trading-
I'm not as high on Beasley's up-side as most.

I think he'll be a nice player- but I don't think he'll develop into a 'franchise' player.......I think he's at BEST a carlos Boozer (like I said nice player)
but just like boozer- it will take a few years to develop
And if they could get multiple pieces......might be worth it

The Heat only want to move this pick if Rose is gone and there i no way of picking up Mayo.
If the Heat can be sure Mayo is there at pick 4 trade the sonics.
Heat pick #2 for Sonics Pick #2 and Pick #46 this will help replace the second round pick we sent to Minni

I don't believe that Beasley will be an absolute superstar in the association, but I still have him going #2.
Check out my mock draft at http://rmensch.blogspot.com

trade the #2 pick to chicago for ben gordon and larry hughs

June 8, 2008  12:05 PM ET

I think this is a very good possibility and I expect to see a lot more trade rumors in the weeks.

Minnesota could offer a combination of the following: Mayo, Walker (expiring), #31, and #34 for Blount and Beasley

If Mayo falls to #5, Memphis could offer Mayo, Miller, Lowry for Cook, Blount, and Beasley. The Grizzlies will have a great young lineup while the Heat get a decent PG and a shooter that takes pressure off of Wade, plus they get rid of Blount. Lowry-Wade-Miller-Marion-Mourning is not too bad.

forgot to mention that Minnesota could return Miami's future first round draft pick as well

And then pack your bags, because you will soon be looking for another job

Mchale would probably be dumb enough to trade Jefferson. If Miami wants Mayo so bad just draft him with the #2 pick. Your not going to get much from another team between 3 and 5.

June 8, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Carmelo wants a trade so send Melo, the #20 overall pick, and a young seldom heard of point like Taushan Green who helped lead Florida to those back to back championships to the Heat for the #2 pick and Jason Williams or Udonis Haslm

They could get plenty. They would money by trading down, they get prospects, they can get veterans, and they can get rid of Blount's fat contract.

And I messed up earlier, I mean to say a Memphis trade would result in a lineup of Mayo-Wade-Miller-Marion-Mourning while Lowry, Wright, Haslem, Davis, Banks, and Barron could come off the bench.

June 8, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Mark my word. The Timberwolves and Sonics are not actively seeking to trade their picks because they can be reasonably confident that the player they want will be available. While Chicago and Miami are playing patsy with each other over Rose and Beasley, the Timberwolves have their choice of OJ Mayo or Jarryd Bayless. The Sonics want Brook Lopez. Niether will have to give anything to get their man. Meanwhile Chicago and Miami are both about to screw the pooch.

June 8, 2008  02:08 PM ET

Brook lopez to the sonics ?
hmmmmm.........lopez + durant might not = Shaq's weight

oh- turtles-
I doubt Miami would welcome Walker back

June 8, 2008  02:15 PM ET

i think miamai needs a PG badly and memphis have a glut at guard, but as a bulls fan i wanna see the bulls get both puicks , i think we can get rid of gordon and hughes to work on deal , a three way is not out of the question with memphis getting involved the bulls can give up a first round pick in next yeears draft to sweeten the deal, this could work...i just hope pax does this.....

June 8, 2008  02:28 PM ET

" think miamai needs a PG badly "

But wade basically runs the offense when healthy-
it's the same thing with any superstar talent....lebron, Kobe, Jordan
these guys don't ened a 'true' point....they need someone who can SHOOT form the outside so when they drive- they can pass to them to hit the open J

Obviously EVERY team could use a Chris Paul, Nash, etc....
but the great 'true' points- are needed when your superstat is a BIG.......

June 8, 2008  02:33 PM ET

Riley seems determined to waste a pick on a point guard. The Heat will be a lottery team again next year.

jgb | 06/08/08, 02:08 PM

It's his last season, what the worst Walker could do, complain? eat at a buffet? Minnesota just kept him on the bench and Walker could do nothing about it. The possibility of clearing Blount's fat contract is a very tempting offer. But again, Memphis can offer so much more (granted Mayo falls). Although I doubt a blockbuster trade will happen, it is a strong possibility and every scenario should be evaluated.

June 8, 2008  03:34 PM ET

If the bulls could somehow come up with the #1 and #2 they would be SET

June 8, 2008  03:37 PM ET

Why would the sonics not give up jeff green to get Beasley...A Durant/Beasley front line would be a pretty nice two players to build around.

June 8, 2008  04:22 PM ET

I'm surprised that the Bulls don't attempt to trade one of their high pick PF's that haven't exactly panned out and draft Beasley. Hinrich is still young and is a quality starting PG in this league. If you draft Rose you have to get rid of him. They trade Noah or Thomas, assuming they draft Beasley 1 (which they probably won't) and they could easily get a late lottery or mid first round pick. Douglas Roberts and Rush should both be available at 15, and would be the taller 2 guard that the Bulls desperately needed. If they keep Ben Gordon, both those players would help out significantly coming off the bench. There really isn't a PF outside of Beasley that can do all the things that he can do with a basketball, and PF is the 2 weakest position in the NBA, next to Center. There just isn't a lot of great PF's in the league anymore. Getting one that can score in the paint and make an open jumper can open up every one elses game. Rose will be better than Hinrich, but the Bulls will need some front court scoring more at this point.

Miami will send the #2 pick to New York for the #6, Isiah Thomas' black book and two orchestra seats to a matinee performance of Legally Blonde.
