Why Maddux won't go to Reds
The Padres are exploring the possibility of trading starting pitcher Greg Maddux. He has stated he would only agree to be traded to a contender and preferably a team in the National League. Would the Reds be interested in trading for Greg Maddux? Key word from Greg: "Contender." And the Reds are getting younger and Maddux would push the Reds toward Social Security status.

Yes, seems pretty f*cking obvious that Maddux won't go to the Reds. So why run this pointless story?

Sox Sider, you're showing your stupidity. Maddux is a competitor, something you probably don't know anything about. Since you're a Cubs fan, it's obvious you still resent his leaving your loser team for the Braves so long ago.

I could see Maddux in Milwaukee. This team has gotten themselves out of the cellar and back into the race winning 6 straight (before colorado).
Not to mention the Brewers are looking for veteran pitchers who can get it done. And Gregs older brother is the Brewers pitching coach...smells like a good fit to me.

I'm trying to enjoy the current Padres win streak/smoke screen, Please give this Padres fandom reality a break for a little bit here.
By the way, sacked92, that's a good speculation. But then again, Maddux has many many teams on his no-trade clause - and can you really fathom Maddux in NYC? I know I can't.

How about going back to Atlanta? They could use another arm.

We got banged up pitchers in St.Louis. I think he would fill a perfect need for us. Plus you know Dave Duncan would love to have Maddux. The best pitcher of the last 20 years (not on HGH) and one of the best pitching coaches ever. WS here we come.

Sry Brew Crew but Maddux wants to go to a contender and there is no way you are getting in front of the Cubs or even the Cardinals for that matter. But from a Cubs fan's view I would love Maddux back in Chicago to take Marquis' spot in the rotation. Marquis is horrible!

There's nothing wrong with Maddux wanting to play for a contender. I don't think he's being shytty with the Padres about it, but think about it. The Padres don't really want him that much either, because they're terrible and come 2 years from now if they keep Maddux they'll have nothing, whereas if they can trade him for anyone now, there's a chance they could have a prospect pan out for them. From the Padres point of view, they probably want to trade Maddux.

Notice that it says "The Padres are exploring it" not "Greg Maddux demanded a trade". Maddux is just saying "in case you trade me, which I think you will, trade me somewhere where I'll be winning games." There's nothing wrong with that. Hell, every free agent or player with trade veto power has done that! Johan Santana is a prime example.
and yeah whoever calls "Sox Sider" a Cubs fan is just plain ignunt

Maddux can apply for AARP. Why don't the Reds sign Nolan Ryan or Charlie Hough?

What do you think he's pitching for money ??? No Way!!! I f you want to trade him - give him the repect- and trade him to a contender !!!

Why would a team out of contention want Maddux anyway ? So they could lose only 95 games instead of 100 ? Of course, if Maddux is traded, it will be to a contending team. Perhaps Maddux is selfish and maybe he's not crazy about playing on a bad team ( like virtually any other major-leaguer) but staying in SD seems pointless from a personal and team standpoint. Personally, I'd love to see him back in Atlanta if the Braves don't capsize in the next month.

Hey San Diego, St. Louis has good young outfielders coming out the wazoo. Need a young outfielder?

Yes, Sox Sider, you're a Cubs fan. I can smell them. They smell like a combination of cheap beer and dirty feet and rotten cabbage. You got that odor all over you. And ain't neither of your Chicago teams gonna win a World Series this year.
And YngwieScruggs, your attempt to sound like you know something is sad. You probably have "loser" written in permanent marker on your forehead. You sound like you're from Cleveland.

Maddux is a Hall of Fame pitcher and a class act. He could help all 30 teams in baseball right now. His arm and his work ethic are both outstanding.

I was just checking Memphis and Springfield. The outfielders are stacking up at both levels.
We still have Nick Stavinoha batting .344 at Memphis and Shane Robinson batting .387 in Springfield. Sooner or later we're going to have to off load some young outfielders. Ankiel and Ludwick are off limits as far as I'm concerned. Barton can't be traded because he's a rule 5 draft. Other than that they're all negotiable as far as I'm concerned.
