Henne in mix for Fins starting job
For those assuming the Dolphins' quarterback competition was a two-man duel between John Beck and veteran Josh McCown, think again, coach Tony Sparano says. Sparano made it clear rookie quarterback Chad Henne is in the mix for the starting job after watching him take snaps with the first team in the first of Saturday's two practices. Beck and McCown had previously split the first-team snaps because of their experience edge and knowledge of the newly installed offense.

Isn't everybody in the "mix" when you only win one game?

I think Henne would be fun to watch play this year. Maybe not play well but I want to see if hes got the talent.

Henne is just as ready for the starting role as Beck and McCown. A five star quarterback out of high school and a 4 year starter at Michigan is preparation enough with the quarterbacks Miami has. When Miami called his name on draft day I knew he would be their starter.

After their season even Vinny could be in the mix...........

Meh. I wouldn't start him at the beginning of the season, but by November, he'd definitely be starting, unless John Beck or Josh McCown have a Derek Anderson-esque great year (no one knows who they are, then BAM, great season).

If they want to win more games now they should start McCown. He provides the best chance to finish with a better record. The young guys will make too many mistakes which could cost them a game or two but the experience could help either of them. The only thing is I would hesitate to put Henne out there if you can't protect him. He needs to feel comfortable out there.

Starting him early would be a HUGE mistake. Let's not forget that this is the NFL. I don't care if you're the nation's MVP in the NCAA, the simple fact is that the NFL is a quantum leap over the NCAA. Mortgaging your future to possibly win a few more games this year is a really bad idea.

why start McCown though? Yeah he provides a better record, MAYBE. & Then none of the young guys got in-game experience, and your still at square 1. So even if he does get you another game or 2, you're 3-13, 4-12. What does that get you? You want a good pick, not middle-of-the-pack.
All I'm saying is that if they start him, they'll still be a bad, inexperienced team with no QB. Why not develop Henne or Beck?

you only won one game....Chad Henne is in the mix for that reason. Even with the two vets, he'll see quite a bit of time on the field this upcoming season.

They should give Henne a few weeks on the sideline to watch, but if the other two are obviously not improving then they shouldn't wait long before going to Henne.

lol...the Fins fan got mad, but sack is right - if you go 1-15, everybody is in the mix for QB.

i dont even understand why the quarterback is as much the issue with the 'Fins. im a lifelong fan, and understand that you need a quarterback that can be counted on to take you to the big dance, however, you also need a secondary that doesnt get shredded, a linebacker corps that doesnt rely on 1 person, who isnt even there anymore, a defensive line that can stop the rush, an offensive line so that Henne, or any other two bit quarterback they utilize isnt always looking up at the sky, and a receiving corps that not only receives, but scores TD's...

You don't want him out there too early. Yeah it would be great to get him some early game experience but you don't want your QB of the future to take too many hits and turn out like David Carr.

Everyone is in the mix for QB, they are even giving the ball boy and equipment manager a look. Is this even news? If they drafted a QB in the 6th round instead of Henne, he'd probably be in the mix too.

Mark my words: Henne will be the start before season's end and he will be very, very effective. QB of the future, if you ask me.
