Spurs to decide on Horry, Thomas

Two of the Spurs' big men, Robert Horry, 37, and Kurt Thomas, 35, are unrestricted free agents. The Spurs should be expected to make a concerted effort to bring back Thomas, acquired from Seattle in a February trade. After a season in which he played only 45 games for a variety of reasons, Horry has contemplated retirement. Two days after the Spurs were eliminated from the playoffs by the Lakers, he said he was still "up in the air" about playing again. He said he prefers to remain with the Spurs if he opts to return.

Try and keep thomas-
Very nice veteran role player
(seems like he's older than 35.....)

Let horry go- they need to find a more athletic big

June 8, 2008  09:25 AM ET

horry is done period

thomas 50/50 we all know how tight the spurs are

June 8, 2008  09:27 AM ET

i see a couple of other teams using some of the mid level exception to get thomas as defensively he can still play a decent role

spurs will only offer a tiny salary as usual

June 8, 2008  11:10 AM ET

Horry should retire, Period.

June 8, 2008  11:28 AM ET

of course the queens of flopping spurs are gonna keep their big flopping 3 of parker, ginobli & the king of flopping duncan but i hope the whole team breaks up i dont like em ppl would rather watch the sapranos than watch these guys in a finals appearance so hopefully they wont make the playoffs n e time soon i love it!

June 8, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Horry is a killer team player. People calling for his retirement don't know what they are talking about.

June 8, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Have to keep Kurt. Just have to. He is too gifted of a player to be let go. On Horry? Since you are not going to sniff at the Finals anytime soon there is no reason that you need Big Shot Rob.

June 8, 2008  02:12 PM ET

"Why is everyone saying Horry is done? The man can still play "

- what ?
he can play.... like 8 minutes a night- tops
can still shoot, but they got outside shooters already

"As for Thomas he isn't the best shooter in the world from games I have seen him play "

- what ?
he's actually a decent mid range shooter.....but that's nt his game-
he rebounds and plays D- points from him is not waht you are looking for
- if they can sign him to a reasonable deal- he's a GREAT compliment to Duncan- whether backing up or starting

June 8, 2008  02:27 PM ET

Horry can help in limited minutes. At the right price shooters are always welcome in the NBA.

June 8, 2008  02:46 PM ET

Thomas is still a good defender and can serve as a solid backup. If they let him go, watch for another team (a return to PHX would be a good move. Dallas should look into it as well).

Horry, no thank you. He is not the same shooter he used to be. If the Spurs want to get younger, Horry is a spot where they can upgrade.

So yes, keep Kurt and let Horry retire.

June 8, 2008  09:23 PM ET

The Spurs will tweak things a bit and be ready for another go-round with Kobe and the Lakers next season. Expect one big roster move this year to get a big man.

June 8, 2008  09:27 PM ET

kurt thomas looks like greg odens little brother. they will keep thomas and chose to let horry go. as long as their is a better option they have. why let someone go when you don't have a viable option to replace him with.

Ok dee of dees come back when ur team can make the playoffs! Ur heat are the laughing stock of the nba. What a joke....

I agree with most of the posts here. Keep Thomas and waive Horry. The fact that Horry played only 45 minutes proves that he's done. He already has more rings than almost anyone in NBA history, and his desire to get more rings is waning.
Since Horry still wants to stay involved with the game, I have 2 possible suggestions for him:
- Go to the Phoenix Suns. Horry has brought luck to all the franchises he has played with - the Rockets, Lakers, and Spurs have all won championships with him. Maybe he can do the same for the Suns. The Suns need another big man, and Horry can fill the gaps when Shaq needs a rest. Besides, the Suns feel that Horry denied them a chance to advance last year, so it's an opportunity for both sides to mend the wound.
- Become a coach. As we've seen, the NBA desperately needs qualified coaches, and Horry has more NBA experience than almost anyone - not just many years, but also many playoffs, including several championship runs. He has played under 3 of the best coaches in league history and has learned their various offensive schemes, including the special Triangle Offense (when he played under Jackson with the Lakers). As a big man, he brings special expertise in that area.
--------------------------------
Once the Spurs let Horry go, they can try to seduce Rasheed Wallace or other big man to fill the open roster spot.

Robert Horry as a special player can be seen in the picture with the article, where he is hypnotizing the referee.
Very few players in the league have even attempted to hypnotize a ref, let alone succeed at it.
Horry has special abilities indeed.

A small salary with a great championship size incentive.

Another hater doing what they do best. How about you let the Champs worry about what they do,and yes i still have the right to say champs since the season is not over yet.As far as flopping goes that is a matter that will be addressed in the next season since there will be regulations to it.So every team will be under watch not just The Champs

June 11, 2008  02:33 AM ET

Thank you, CEL. Duncan, a FLOPPER? The KING of flopping? You've got to be joking and too poor to see an eye doctor.

I love Robert Horry but I think he wants to retire and probably will. I got to meet hm recently and was very glad I did since I assume this will be his last year. Why do you think he switched to nuber 25? He wanted to retire in the same jersey number he started in.

June 12, 2008  10:12 AM ET

Keep Thomas. And if horry can be big shot rob again then keep him. Although we didnt see any of that in the playoffs
