Artest may wind up a Knick

The critics are still out on what kind of defensive identity the Knicks will develop under new coach Mike D'Antoni. Perhaps Ron Artest can help. The Knicks may have a chance to sign Artest to a five-year, $30 million mid-level exception, if he opts out of the last year of his contract with the Sacramento Kings and becomes a free agent on July 1. That contract would pay him $7.4 million. It's even a possibility the Knicks could work a sign-and-trade with Sacramento, if the Kings would agree to it. When the Daily News asked the Queensbridge product if he would like to play for the team he grew up watching, Artest flashed a huge grin.

a fitting piece to the debacle in new york. will sephon and he share the same shrink and probation officer?

Yea, this would work... he comes ready-made with gunshot wounds as you can see from the picture. Him and Stephon can drink the pink champale and go pimpin'.

Come back home Ron, we need someone who can play defense!

June 9, 2008  07:07 AM ET

Yes. Too many people like to bash athletes for mistakes in their personal life instead of concentrating on their achievements on the field. Ron, come to NY. At least here you wont have to be an angel to be loved by the fans. As long as you play defense that is.

a mistake is ordering decaf when you meant to order a double shot of espresso...a mistake is calling out another chicks name in bed. Beating up THE WRONG KID in detroit isn't a mistake. Doing what this mongoloid does by opening his eyes every morning isn't a mistake. He's a savage that needs to be caged.

who would they give up in a sign and trade? Also I think this trade could be the end of Artest, he will do something dumb and be out!

June 9, 2008  08:05 AM ET

cuban is a gambler

if he wants to win he needs a superstar defender so either trade for marion or artest

if cuban dosent he either dosent have a set of b@1ls or he is getting even more stupid

all nutcases go to dallas so why not?

if not the knicks will pay him the midlevel and millions under the table - lakers style (lakers you are cheats who payed millions on the slide to the memphis owner to get gasol in the most bogus/fixed trade in nba history)

June 9, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Dude is nothin but trouble.....who cares where he goes as long as it isn't my Lakers.

June 9, 2008  08:34 AM ET

It makes perfect sense for Artest to go to the Knicks since he will get reunited with GM Walsh.
Walsh thought he was getting rid of a troublemaker when he traded him from Indiana, but now he returns to play under Walsh, much like a boomerang.

Geez.. do any of you ever let anything go? This guy hasn't been in the news for anything negative in about 3 years and everyone is still on his back. Let it go.

Thats because he was suspended for a year and played another year in purgatory. I mean Sacramento. This thug needs a well seasoned cellmate to set him strait. Sure he'd walk with a limp for a while...but at least he'd calm down by being more in touch with his feminine side.

But DandyLions - the Knicks are the natural habitat for thugs.
Don't you remember Anthony Mason, Oakley, and the other thugs from the 90's?
It took Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Alonzo Mourning to put those thugs in touch with their feminine side - by outscoring them on the basketball court.

Lets see how long it takes before Artest chokes out Dantoni. This has bad idea written all over it.Why can't the Knicks get a decent squad?

although i like the idea of artest in a knick uniform. this would be a bust with the current makeup of the knicks roster. the knicks need a lot more than artest!!

The Knicks need their roster to be blown up and started over. Marbury is a good fit for the D'Antoni run-and-gun offense, but that's about it. Eddy Curry needs to lose some weight, Jeffries is trash...there's a lot that needs to change for the Knicks to be successful, and it should have started already. What are they waiting for?
