Predators ownership woes

Predators General Manager David Poile has reassuring words for fans concerned with how Nashville's current unsettled ownership situation could impact the team on the ice. William "Boots'' Del Biaggio III, who owned 27 percent of the team, declared bankruptcy Friday after he was targeted by numerous multimillion dollar lawsuits. The team's other owners have been exploring the purchase of Del Biaggio's interest or finding another investor to replace him. "It's obviously a situation you wish didn't happen, but it has nothing to do with the payroll,'' Poile said."

I love good ol' traditional country music......but I hate the crap that comes out of Nashville these days. I'm still having a hard time with the fact that there is a NHL team in Tennessee. Los Angeles, Aneheim, San Jose, Phoenix, Dallas, Nashville, Florida, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, and Washington DC.

shut up dummy. I bet you'd be happy in a league with one team. That being the godforsaken team you pull for. you just names a third of the NHL. Dope.

How about this then: "These Boots are made for walkin'......"

June 9, 2008  08:29 AM ET

What a joke. 'Boots' Del Baggio shouldn't even be in this discussion. If Gary had just let Balsillie buy the Preds then this team's ownership situation would be settled by now.

I was in agreement up until you mentioned Atlanta tpc. Maybe you should ask wikipedia where Calgary came from. The rest of the list either needs to learn how to take care of the ice properly or GTFO.

June 9, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Yeah, expanison is terrible. Just ask the NFL, MLB and NBA. Go Caps!

June 9, 2008  11:11 AM ET

When are they going to can Bettman? He was so focused on finding someone to take one of his troubled franchises off his hands and keep it there that he was willing to take money from anyone who wasn't Jim Balsillie. Balsillie has lots of money and is actually passionate about owning a team and moving it to where there is actually a passionate fanbase. You wouldn't want an owner like that in the league. One that actually cares. Instead they like ownership groups like the one in Toronto where they are primarily focused on making money for themselves and league.

This whole Predators mess is looking better and better on that pompous, arrogant midget Gary Buttman and the NHL owners!

June 9, 2008  11:26 AM ET

Agreed completey modsuperstar. The best part about this story is the fact that Del Biaggo tried to sell his minority share to Balsillie. And guess what, the NHL blocked him from doing so.

Balsillie is Gary's biggest nightmare - and owner he can't control. That's why Jim doesn't have a team yet. Give it time, and I bet when Jim does get his team he'll make Betteman's life a living hell - much like Cuban/Stern in the NBA.

June 9, 2008  11:56 AM ET

Agreed Bentley, Bettman doesn't want Balsillie anywhere near the NHL. But why? Is it only because he is Canadian and wants to relocate a team there? If he becomes a minority owner, he can't pull those kinds of strings. Until he buys out everyone else.
Bettman should be kissing his feet, I'll bet Bettman uses one of Balsillie's 'Blackberry's" everyday!

June 9, 2008  12:50 PM ET

BGM. Bettman saves the owners money. And to the vast majority of the owners, that's all that matters. Its unfortunate but, ownership of a hockey team or any other team for that matter, is a business. Nothing more and nothing less.
Take a look at the arenas for starters, its all filled with corporate logos. That's just one example of the owners selling out for the sole purpose of making money.

Whoever runs Nashville, just do not get rid of Dr Zaius. I mean Barry Trots.

But I too think there are too many teams in the south, in places where hockey is barely on the radar.

Dallas though has a stong AHL heritage.

I agree..Trotz did a great job with what he had after they had that fire sale in Nashville. My opinion is he should have gotten consideration for coach of the year

June 9, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Oh and the midget is too stupid to use a blackberry

June 9, 2008  02:51 PM ET

I like how they always use the same pic for anytime there is an article about the Preds...

June 9, 2008  03:54 PM ET

Oh god... it's that damn picture again.

June 10, 2008  07:09 AM ET

Bettman is hell-bent on selling hockey in the U.S. It can work in some areas, but clearly not everywhere. For whatever reason, he doesn't want the game to expand in Canada. Probably because he can't get massive T.V deals up here.
I think its really that simple so, until the midget is out, this is what we get.
I'm sure that if Nashville has to go, Bettman would be open to moving the team to Winchester Kentucky or something.

June 10, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Nashville to Hartford.
Tampa Bay to Winnipeg.
Florida to Quebec.
Let's move hockey back to where it supposed to be played, where, I dunno, ice can occur naturally. If we need to drop Carolina or any other members of the NASCAR district, so be it. It's for the greater good.

June 10, 2008  11:26 AM ET

"Move hockey back where it should be played." Seriously, what is the problem with teams being in the south? Let's hear it. I keep hearing this constant stream of whining and moaning from people NOT in the South yet I don't hear any RATIONAL reason why ANY of you feel this way. Unless you start spilling out some facts, much less grace a southern teams home game with your oversized heads, ****. NONE of you have any legs to stand on in this arguement. Oh... outside of the fact that none of your "original six" teams can barely win a cup, much less afford to keep to NHL open with so small a league.

June 10, 2008  11:54 AM ET

So what if you can fill an arena south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Nobody else is watching. And as soon as the team is out of the playoffs, nobody is watching.

Ipso fatso, put hockey where it should be. In the north. Where a town of 50,000 people could fill an arean with 16,000 rabid fans.
