Can Terps find scholarship players?

After losing two players he was counting on heavily for next season, Maryland men's basketball coach Gary Williams vowed last week that his Terps would be competitive next season and that he wasn't finished recruiting. But where is Williams going to find players to replace Gus Gilchrist and Tyree Evans, who were released from their scholarship commitments? Nowhere, according to national recruiting analysts. A possibility for Maryland is Jin Soo Kim, a 6-7, 170-pound shooting guard from South Korea. Kim, who committed to the Terps last year as a junior at South Kent (Conn.) School, is back home after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum. But there are questions surrounding Kim, including the health of his shoulder. According to Tom Konchalski, Kim's stock went down from his sophomore year to his junior year at South Kent because of a lack of productivity and a questionable attitude.

Gary Williams needs to be fired. He won the national championship six years ago and it's been all downhill since. His recruiting and retention of players has been absolutely horrendous; his teams have been inconsistent at best, showing flashes of potential (i.e. the win in Chapel Hill this past season) but badly underachieving the rest of the time. Williams brought Maryland back to national prominence in the nineties, but it's time for a shake-up in College Park.

Gary Williams never could recruit. It was always his assistants (Hahn for one). With the revolving door he has had with assistant coaches, there is no one to woo the recruits. Gary hates doing it.

If the Terps do not make the Big Show, I could see Maryland making a change. Bring in a young stud coach and a new staff and give the fans (me) a reason to be a Terp B-ball fan!

I'd agree, that Gary's time is done. He's a great coach and won it all 6 yrs ago now, but since couldn't get any true contender. We went from elite to NIT pretty quickly. Time for change
