Blockbuster deal for Pistons, Nuggets?

Truth is, the Pistons would be willing to trade Chauncey Billups, and others, and the Nuggets are agreeable to listen to offers for Carmelo Anthony and others. The Pistons have point guard-in-waiting Rodney Stuckey, who took over when Billups strained his hamstring in the playoffs. An exchange of Anthony, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin and Chucky Atkins for Billups, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and Detroit's first-round pick (29th) makes the most sense (and dollars under the cap for the Nuggets) and is scary-good for both teams.

don't trade Tayshaun!!

Thats pretty even but I think Detroit gets the best player therefore I think they do the better but not by much.

June 10, 2008  08:04 AM ET

Obviously the NBA has relaxed it's drug policy. Joe Dumars is on something, and should be investigated. With Iverson already in Denver, this definitely works for them, but I don't see this as "scary good" for the Pistons. It allows Detroit to get rid of Rasheed, but at what cost?

I like it as a Pistons fan. We need to bring in a super star type of player. Is Melo the right one? I dont know, but its not like landing LeBron would be easy, so this might be the next best thing.

It gives Detroit a 1-2-3 of Stuckey, Rip, and Melo (all guys who can score at a high clip) (Chucky and Afflalo off th bench? might need to sign someone else..)

And very solid veteran bigs of Antonio, Camby, and Martin to help develop Amir Johnson and Maxiel.

I think it would also make a bunch of sense for Denver as well.

This sounds titilating but it will never happen

Which brings me to ask... is it happy in LAKERLAND right now?

as a Pistons fan, the only qualm i have is trading Tayshaun... but I'm pretty much over it. This would be a great trade for both teams, i think. Here's hoping it happens...

I agree with all these guys who have trouble getting rid of Tay, but he has not gotten it done on the offensive end in the playoffs. Yes, he is a premier defender, but since the rule changes in 2004, the style (that only us Pistons fans love), is no longer as effective. I think this would allow us to adjust to the new NBA. It is definitely hard to let go of the old Pistons, who won the right way.

there is nothing wrong with the pistons team. they have a veteran starting five and decent bench and a new coach. they get to the conference finals every year. joe dumars will be dumb to break up that nucleus. so what wallace flys off the handles all the time. he's not as crazy as dennis rodman.

June 10, 2008  08:42 AM ET

It's always easy to be nervous getting rid of pieces that made both teams very good, but both teams need a bump to get over the hump. Its better to look at what both teams end up with.

I think Iverson and Sheed together would be a great combo with Wallace able to draw defenders out of the lane. Tay would be more effective in the superstar rich west.

There is nothing wrong? If there was nothing wrong, they would be four time defending champions..

trade billups o miami for jason williams

June 10, 2008  08:45 AM ET

They are dreaming in Denver. There is no way Detroit does this deal.

June 10, 2008  08:46 AM ET

i dont know about that starting 5 savage. that s a mighty small and thin lineup. it wont match up with no team out west.

June 10, 2008  08:46 AM ET

I like the idea, Savage, but would the Heat be down for it? They do get an expiring contract, but I don't know if its enough. You might have to include a draft pick as well.

June 10, 2008  08:49 AM ET

The question is does Joe view next year as a slight rebuilding year? Hiring Curry makes me think he is ok with a little bit rebuilding (otherwise would he hand this team over to someone with no experience?) By hiring Curry, that means Joe Dumars will be coaching from the box.

June 10, 2008  08:49 AM ET

Beasley can't play centre in the NBA Savage. You are dreaming.

June 10, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Wow, talk about a blockbuster and a win win, both teams need a new start. Think about it, Billups, Wallace, Prince and AI. Not bad

June 10, 2008  08:51 AM ET

I love woody paige's article's, very intresting

June 10, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Do the Pistons really need to break up their roster? Seems like they just didn't like Flip. If anyone should be traded it's Rasheed, but that's it.

June 10, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Now all Denver has to do is get rid of Iverson and they have a team that can compete. Sorry AI fans, he's a great individual talent, but having him on your team almost guarantees you're not winning a championship, you could put that entire Piston core around him if you want. Please don't think he can slide into Rip's spot and fill it up, Rip plays WITHIN the offense, something that is greek to Iverson. Besides, even with the trade, Lakers, Utah, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, New Orleans, and Houston with a healthy T-Mac and Yao are still better.
