Seattle WR threatens holdout

Seahawks receiver Bobby Engram confirmed Sunday night that a training-camp holdout is a possibility. Engram was the Seahawks' leading receiver last season with 94 catches and has one year remaining on his contract. He is scheduled to make $1.7 million, but would like an extension added to the deal. He has not participated in the team's voluntary workouts, which resume for the Seahawks today. Engram did not say he would hold out if his contract is not reworked, he only confirmed that a training-camp holdout remains possible. "That's basically the story," Engram said.

7 seasons prior to 2007, he had a sum total of approx 3000 yards receiving. averaging approx 450 yards a season most of his career. 6000 yards in 11 seasons pre 2007. he finally breaks 1000 yards for the 1st time in his 12th season as a pro:

now he wants to hold out.

June 10, 2008  07:45 AM ET

deactivate him. not like the hawks are going to make any noise anyways

June 10, 2008  07:50 AM ET

We'll see you in Dallas Bobby

June 10, 2008  07:51 AM ET

pw.. you don't know the business of football obviously.. guys don't generally go into the final year of their contract if the team wants to keep them

June 10, 2008  08:42 AM ET

bigdog, my point was he's a legend in his own mind. and not long for seattle if he thinks 1 season makes his career.

your point was: he's not long for seattle either and i dont know football b/c i said he wasnt long for seattle. by your own logic, guess you dont know football either.

Is this not Holmgrens last year? Bad timing for Engram, do not think the coach cares if he gets and extension or not...Would be a bad move by the team to invest much long term in this guy..

June 10, 2008  10:24 AM ET

send his butt to arena league and see if he changes his tune. this guy is about as good as FredEx

June 10, 2008  10:26 AM ET

He deserves it but they won't give it to him. He is 35 years old.

June 10, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Cut him and has big mouth.

June 10, 2008  11:17 AM ET

The only reason he caught a team high 94 receptions was because they had nobody to run the ball and if I'm not mistaken Branch was injured some too. With the Seahawks picking up Julius Jones to help balance out the attack Engram's role diminshes. Shut iup and play or get out of the way!

June 10, 2008  11:22 AM ET

hey norcalsurfer

What's with all the turmoil in Seattle?

Coach leaving, RB cut, WRs bitching ... looks like you guys are coming apart at the seams before the season even starts.

Don't ya just HATE it when you continually point fingers at other BETTER teams (like the Steelers) and it comes back to bite you square in the **** kid?

Looks like you guys wont have to worry about losing in the Super Bowl anytime soon since your team wont be in one for the next couple decades!

That is not what the Seattle Times article said. SI likes to put certain items from an article and put on this site. Taking everything out of context. Engram will likely report within two weeks, maybe even by Sunday. Seattle will be a great team this year, but we need Bobby to do that. Our defense will dominate. Now that we have a ridiculous amount of quality D-Linemen our problems stopping the run should cease. Mix that with a top-notch secondary and look out.

June 10, 2008  12:31 PM ET

I agree with Norcal surfer. He definitely helps the team. And I still can sympathize with him wanting more money. He had an awesome season and would like to finish his career there. So obviously an extension that would give him some sort of pay raise would be nice.

June 10, 2008  12:41 PM ET

I agree with you too C note.

June 10, 2008  12:43 PM ET

But I think Seattle will give him what he want or close to it. Unlike the Mariners, the Seahawks treat their players well. Bobby has been good to the city of Seattle and I think he will get his reward. I don't like him being so public about this though.

Typical classless Steeler fan BlackGold. Why don't you just accept the fact you were handed a championship 2 years ago. No matter how much you bad mouth the Hawks, they still have a better squad on paper, then your steelers. Face facts

June 10, 2008  05:02 PM ET

Hawks12 I know you are not serious...Engram is mid30s and would like a little security. He is not a burner but is in the Derrick Mason and Isaac Bruce mold where he can stretch the chains and rarely drops passes. Hawks12 Ihope you have not rewound your DVD too many times though to watch Jackson pushing off on Chris Hope in the first quarter of the Super Bowl. Couldhave been 21-3 Steelers when Roethliscrotch gave Herndon a gift to make it a game. The only blown call was the dumb penalty on Hasselbeck's clipping when he went low to make a tackle...dumbest rule in football

June 10, 2008  05:07 PM ET

SteelersMD cat got you there Hawks fans...they made the plays. Bobby Jackson did a shove Booker T the wrestler would be proud of

June 10, 2008  08:48 PM ET

You can spin it all you want, game was fixed. Funny how most of those calls happened in scoring situations. Seems pretty coincidental! Just look it how it is coming out that NBA was fixing playoff games to increase popularity. You don't think that the NFL wanted a familiar face as defending champ going into the CBA negoitiations the next year in case of a strike. Sure the Hawks still had a chance to win it anyway and there are no guarantees they would have won if the game was called square, but it would have been close. There were 2-3 TDs that got negated by the ticky-tack calls. Also when DARRYL Jackson (Don't talk smack when you can't get the name right) was penalized, where was the call on the contact before by the CB did you fast forward past that. Seems like the refs were willing to let that ticky-tack call go. Obviously lop-sided!

Man Hawks you and the other cate-eatin crackers needs to be gettin over it. Gots the Jacksons mixed cause they are important anyway. **** Locklear was holding, Big Ben got over the goal line and you all can still smell slow **** Hines Ward and gimpy leg Willie Parker's dust on those twolong touchdowns. CBA my **** take thoseugly **** certs-lookin uniforms and wipe your butt
