Plummer, Bucs near settlement
Retire in peace, Jake Plummer. The Buccaneers on Monday were closing in on reaching a settlement with the former quarterback for $3.5 million, according to two NFL sources. The Bucs were initially seeking approximately $7 million in prorated signing bonus from Plummer, arguing that by retiring, the quarterback did not fulfill his contract agreement. In the middle of this dispute was the Broncos. Plummer and the Broncos renegotiated their contract on March 2005, a deal that was transferred two years later to the Bucs in a trade for a conditional draft pick. The settlement would save Plummer another $3.5 million because precedent was on the Bucs' side.

In essence, the Broncos paid 3.5 million dollars ( the money that would have gone to them in this settlement) for the right to a seventh round draft pic. LOL....

Yeah we definitely got screwed on that deal. I love Cutler, but I miss seeing Mountain Man Jake on the sidelines at Invesco.

The guy must have really got sick of the game to walk away from it. He still was better than a lot of the starters out there now..How much money do you think a team like the Vikings would pay to have him back there instead of Jackson this year...It couold be the one piece missing for a team like that..

Yeah, his mind is above money and football. I can't say a bad word. Watchign his buddy leave the NFL and go to the military affected him apparently.

Screwed him over by trading him because he wasn't going to start? That doesn't make any sense. Cutler is the future of the franchise, and he was going in as the starter. So basically, Shanny was doing him a favor by trading him to a team where he might have a chance to start. Plummer didn't want to go, he had saved his money, doesn't need to rely on football anymore, so he decided to hang em up. I hardly think that is Mike Shanahan's fault.

Plummer got off very well in this. He's a western guy - didn't he grow up in Idaho? - and I don't think he wanted to come east for anything. Some guys don't want to go east of the Rockies. I think Elway was like that too. Anyway he made out.
