Real Madrid prepares Ronaldo offer

Real Madrid is preparing to make an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo to test Manchester United's resolve as soon as Portugal's participation in Euro 2008 ends, according to a report. Los Merengues know that while Sir Alex Ferguson is unhappy at the thought of losing his star player, the owners of the English champions may find such a mega bid too good to turn down. United have lodged an official complaint with FIFA over the Spanish giants' public attempt to unsettle Ronaldo and despite Madrid's denials, it easy to see why th case has come about.

I like C. Ronaldo and obviously I love Real Madrid CF, however....

This is getting old. I'll be glad when Euro '08 is over so he can tell Real he's going back to ManU and Real can get back to building a TEAM instead of throwing so many resources at one player. FIND YOUR OWN C. RONALDO!!!! Madrid could pay Levante's wages for what they want to pay this man. I'd love to see him in white at such a young age, but not for what it's going to cost in both players, cash, and possibly team chemistry.

This hurts but it's up to Sir Alex Ferguson and the Glazers to agree to this. I believe Sir Alex's sincerity when he says that he would let Ronaldo rot in the stands before he sells him.

However, the team is in some debt so as much as it may hurt them on the field if Real Madrid offers enough money the Glazers might find it hard to resist. Despite what Sir Alex says.

I think SAF might have pi$$ed off Ronaldo by saying United would rather he rot in the stands. He has since told SAF not to visit him at Euro '08. Don't know if that has anything to do with the snub, but I think SAF might stuck his foot in his mouth with that one.

It's all about the money! Which is as good as cash! It's good to have it in case you need it. So, when you need it, you already have it! AFLACK!!!

Real Madrid have it. ManU seem to need it, but they don't have it!

Bye, bye, Ronaldo! ManU fans bid you farewell!

Ole!

Demitar Bervatov <--- that's a helluva soccer name

Yeah, I heard that too MadridistAmericano. He may have pissed Ronaldo off but that can be forgiven next season, if he stays. My mind says that Ronaldo will be a Real Madrid player next season but my heart and gut says that he stays with United. I hope my gut is right.

June 10, 2008  10:19 AM ET

let him go! ManU can find another C.Ronaldo. He was good becoz he had so many good players around him. Let Real Madrid spend the $. If I m SAF, i will let him go in a heart beat! so did SAF let Van Nitesoroy, Beckham, Roy Keane, Jap Stam go.. whoever talked too much or are unsettled should let go! Like SAF said b4 there is no player bigger than the ManU - the club. ManU is not defined by C.Ronaldo alone. Pocket the $ and win another UEFA champ league! Go Red Devil!

June 10, 2008  10:22 AM ET

My god is this a win\win situation for Ronaldo.

If Real is willing to pay the buy-out, transfer fee and wages then he can restructure his contract and get paid even more money.

If he stays at United then he can restructure his contact on the basis of lost wages due to the fact that United did not sell him to Real.

I love this business!

I think he wants to stay at United but he wants to have the highest wages on the team and maybe in the Prem.

Rio is making more per week then Ronaldo is right now and that can not be sitting to well with the Portuguese. He is the best player in Europe if not the world and he is not even the top earner on his team let alone his league? Something is wrong with that???

He never should have let Stam go???.it crippled the defense for years.

I want Real Madrid to focus on recalling DeLaRed and Granero rather than spending millions on CR7. Also, what happened to the David Villa to Real Madrid rumors?
HALA MADRID!

June 10, 2008  10:27 AM ET

I want Real Madrid to focus on recalling Granero and DeLaRed from Getafe to build up that midfield. What happened to the David Villa to Real Madrid rumors?

June 10, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Dunno Chaco. I just knew David Villa was coming. I think De La Red and Granero will still come either way but who's going out the door in order to let CR7 in??

June 10, 2008  11:16 AM ET

Its' too bad that its all about the money. it seem that no player will play for honor anymore.
C.R is an awesome player who will benefit any team he is on. If ManU's debt is that bad that they have to sell him, its their own damn fault!

June 10, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Maybe Villa will join Arsenal that would be sweet, I agree i am sick of all these CR7 rumors

June 10, 2008  11:45 AM ET

Latin_Silky is right. This is a win-win for Ronaldo. Either way this goes he is going to get what he wants: more money.

June 10, 2008  02:26 PM ET

This could be a win for United also. Let him go for at least Robino and $$ hell if we can get Ramos, Robino and some $$ it would be the right move for united. Everyone and their mothers know that United/Glazers have a nice size debt they are trying to work hard to bring down. So we could Robino to replace CR7 on the pitch and Rt back for him also (which is one of our main needs this summer) and some money to put towards either a striker (Villa I hope after watching todays Spain game) or to use towards the debt.

June 10, 2008  03:34 PM ET

ManU have no interest in the money and are NOT looking to reduce their debts. Where they are currently is manageable and as long as they keep performing like last season the money will continue to roll in, they made a pretax profit of $120 million last year (after they paid the $100 million interest on the debt) and player salaries are less than 50% of turnover. So they won't sell for the money but SAF does have a reputation for getting the best possible deal when players get beyond themselves. Long term losing CR will do no harm to ManU as they will simply go out and improve their squad. Personally I won't be unhappy to see the ungrateful sob go.

June 10, 2008  04:19 PM ET

Let's all remember what happens to a player when they rub Sir Alex the wrong way - they end up gone: David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Gabriel Heinze, Roy Keane, and now...

It doesn't matter how good a player is or what he contributes as a leader. If Ferguson gets pissed off at Ronaldo for making all these comments then he may tell the Glazers to go ahead and sell him. Benching him doesn't make sense because it would be a distraction to the team and the press would never let up. Ronaldo made comments like this before, but it was because of the World Cup situation with England. This time he has no excuse for wanting to leave. Ferguson has given Ronaldo slack before, but at some point he will get angry.

June 10, 2008  04:20 PM ET

Don't blame C Ronaldo. Teams, players, coaches are all a miracle-go-round. If you're good, they love you and sign you to a long deal. If you suck or get injured, then good riddance (aka classic Ronaldo).

Players get old. Players get bored. The case with C Ronaldo is that Man U is not all that he's ever wanted to be. He wants to test out Spain's best and maybe later on, Italy's best.
