More problems for Tar Heels guard

Posted: Tuesday June 10, 2008 06:58AM ET

North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson has rescheduled a workout he missed with the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, and twisted his ankle near the end of a workout Monday with the Washington Wizards. Lawson has declared for the draft but can return for his junior season if he withdraws by June 16 and does not hire an agent. Point guard is considered a position of need for the Nuggets, and Lawson was expected to work out along with Kansas point guard Mario Chalmers on Sunday. Chalmers showed up, but Lawson didn't. The missed workout came two days after Lawson, 20, was charged with driving after consuming alcohol, violating a noise ordinance and driving with a revoked license early Friday morning in Chapel Hill.

It's Hot!

It's Not!

If he's smart he will return for his junior season given his new found notoriety! The DUI, missed workout, and ankle twist will surely affect his stock price with only 6 days remaining to make a decision.

This is great news if you're a Tar Heels fan. I want Lawson to fulfill his goal of playing in the league, but he could clearly use another year in college for both maturity as well as the development of his game. His draft stock could only rise with another year in the college game.

He shouldn't have entered the draft in the first place. Ellington needs to drop out of the draft as well. I would like it if Green did too, but he's a much better player than Lawson and Ellington and might be a decent pick.

Go back to Carolina Lawson and make another run @ the Final Four !!!

GO TARHEELS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's smart? thats why he was driving while he was drunk? that's the most classic case of oxymoron there is. If he was smart he wouldn't have been driving around drunk

Report Offensive Comment

He sounds pretty stupid to me. For him to make my team he would have to play in the D-League for at least two years and be absolutely nothing short of professional to have a chance to be the 11th or 12th man on my bench. Go Illini!!!!!

BAC of 0.03 hardly drunk, still driving, drinking underage with revoked license shows a lack of maturity and good judgement. He is still a first round pick, because the NBA is unfortunately made up of a good many punks, thugs, and people who think they are above the law. Compare this to the OJ Mayo scam. His stock isn't hurt. Why should Lawson's be. Professional sports is out of control.

Let's see, missed workouts, drinking problem, and the inability to follow the rules of the road. Sounds like he's ready for the NBA doesn't it?

Report Offensive Comment

WE DONT NEED THIS TYPE OF TRASH AT CAROLINA. PLEASE STAY IN THE DRAFT.

Looks like he will be back. ... I know this just make you Dook fans soooo happy. .. lol.

He is a player but clearly one of many that lacks common sense.. I agree he needs to return but big money makes it hard.

That sucks.

Go back to school, straighten yourself out. Shake off the injuries, issues, and missing NBA workouts. Come back strong next year and then enter the draft a much better player.
