FC Dallas is set to name SMU head coach Schellas Hyndman as its new head coach and will announce the signing later this week, sources told SBI on Tuesday. The decision comes two weeks after FC Dallas fired former coach Steve Morrow.

He's a legend in Dallas-area soccer and has produced numeous pro players. He has pro playing experience. I'm still kind of surprised, because I'm not sure why he would want to take this on. He has a fantastic situation at SMU, and he's a bit older. Maybe he's given up that dream of finally winning the NCAA and relishes a higher challenge.

Keeper, Sigi Schmid made the same jump from college and is doing well. So did Arena (and I know all the criticisms, but he's had success) and Bradley.

That just means no one else was interested enough. A college coach?

I believe that the owner of FC Dallas (Clark Hunt) played for Hyndman when Mr. Hunt was the captain of the SMU soccer team back in the mid-'80s. ('83-'86)

That tells you all that you need to know. Plus, this isn't the first time that they've tried to hire him. He should be good.

Schellas has had great success with SMU in Dallas. I have played under the man. I went to see FC play recently and they have no attack and especially no aggressiveness at all. Schellas will change this......

so the owner wants to hire his college coach. you're right that's all I need to know.

sigi and arena went from college to MLS, but both coached top programs in the country and plus that was over 10 years ago when the league was much different.

this would have been a nice hire ten years ago, but this has potential disaster written all over it.

Hyndman is a class act with a lot of success in a top college program. He will do much better than the previous coaches. FC Dallas needs a serious attack, and fans are tired of our lack of counter-attack. Hopefully Schellas will be able to fix this, or it will be a short tenure.

Schellas is the man for the job. He is more than qualified to coach an MLS team. The league play might not be good enough for his standards. Don't disrespect a college coach you don't know. I have interviewed him and played against him.
With his tenth degree black belts, he can kick your arse!

how is he overqualified for a MLS job? I think the first qualification is coaching experience on the professional level. MLS isn't the same as it was 10 years ago. If you going into a court case facing major jail time are you going to hire a lawyer with experience in high profile cases with a winning record or are you going to hire your old law prof?
