Sooners mad over cancelled game

Middle Tennessee State Athletics Director Chris Massaro said he seized a prime scheduling opportunity, but regrets if others didn't see it that way. Last November, MTSU backed out of an agreement to play Oklahoma in football this season, and Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione said he didn't appreciate the means by which it was done. In a Tulsa World story published last Sunday, Castiglione accused MTSU's athletic administration of not only making a late withdrawal from the agreement, but also not informing Oklahoma that it was doing so. "We had an agreement for a long period of time and there was a contract that was written," Castiglione told the Tulsa World. "What happens is they play games with it and won't sign it. You get one excuse after the other. And then they just flat out refuse to even answer your call, or return your call. So you know something is up."

I'm sure they'll fill the slot with West Texas State Industrial, Agricultural, Beauty School University and Tire Center.

vaughn9 - I bet you are an Ohio State fan - guess you would not be interested in seeing Oklahoma kick Ohio State like the SEC does everytime there is a Bowl Game in town. Wonder how many other teams want to have Ohio State in a Bowl Game so that they can chalk up an Automatic win on National Television.

Of course they're upset. Now they've got to go find some other school to fill the slot. Maybe Our Lady of Mercy Pre-K is available. Here's a thought Castiglione....be upset when someone who actually fields a football team bails on you.

And we wonder how that powerhouse Boise State beat them. Amazing.

Bobby mad....Bobby throw visor..Bobby get all pissy....

June 11, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Wow, Middle Tennessee State!! Now when you get turned down by these guys, you know it's not your day. Maybe Oklahoma can find a High School team to fill the spot.

"We had an agreement for a long period of time and there was a contract that was written," Castiglione told the Tulsa World. "What happens is they play games with it and won't sign it...."

Maybe they need to put expiry dates on the contracts - if they're not signed and delived by a specific date, it's out the window. Pin this one on the AD for not pursuing it. Or maybe they figured they'd offed enough cash to show up for a drubbing that MTSU would automatically jump.

Then again, this works both ways. Ask Mike Price about not signing a contract.

I think DeVry has an opening that week. Give em a call

June 11, 2008  11:19 AM ET

It has to hurt MTSU's bottom line. Guessing they were going to be OU's homecoming game and probably could have made a lot of money for their athletic department.

Dear Bobby:

We will gladly see you on a nice Saturday afternoon.

Love,

Boise St.

You should do a thorwdown xxx84 with 3rd degree on which one of your respected teams 2 NC losing streak is worse! :P

Why would they play MTSU anyway? They haven't done anything in football or any other sport for that matter. I think back in the day they upset Ralph Sampson's Virginia team in the NCAA tourney.

I would lose that in a landslide, everyone hates OSU! Problem is I like Oklahoma, its a great program and Stoops is an Ohio boy, so I've always pulled for them. just cant let someone get after the Bucks and not stick up for them.

June 11, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Ohio state sucks.

June 11, 2008  01:28 PM ET

Most people in Oklahoma didn't even know Boise was part of the mainland United States until after the Fiesta Bowl.

June 11, 2008  01:32 PM ET

Who could MTSU find to play that is better than Oklahoma?

The big dogs of football are not exactly beating the door down to schedule a game with Middle Tennessee State.
