Rutgers beats FSU to recruit

It's not that Mark Brazinski isn't impressed by what he's seen of the direction of Rutgers football -- from the victories to the regular bowl appearances to the impressive recruiting commitments. That's all significant, said the standout center from Immaculata High School in Somerville. But just as important to Brazinski is that he recently found out he will be accepted to Rutgers' School of Business as a freshman to begin working toward a degree in finance. That was the overriding factor in Rutgers landing its latest four-star recruit according to Rivals.com -- that's three four-star recruits out of the nine commitments for 2009 -- with Brazinski announcing yesterday that he is Rutgers-bound. The 6-4, 290-pound senior-to-be from Basking Ridge, considered the state's top offensive lineman, was also weighing offers from Boston College and Florida State.

Are you sure it's not because he really enjoyed taking rides in Schiano's Helicopter?

June 11, 2008  07:20 AM ET

If college football fans do not realize it yet they better start: Greg Schiano, regardless of his team's somewhat let-down of a season in 2007 is a thorn-in-the-side to ALL coaches of top-25 programs in terms of recruiting. RU could be a program to keep a serious eye on by 2010.

I just pulled my Star Ledger off my doorstep and read this whole story in print. It's a breath of fresh air in college football to read this entire story and read the kid's comments about choosing RU in part because of going to the business school there, and the academic concerns. I'm a New Jersey resident/USC fan but I also enjoy seeing Rutgers continue to build its program.

"Rutgers beats FSU to recruit"

good for rutgers........but-
how pitiful is FSU becoming when they lose recruits to rutgers?

We have some "new blood", his name is Jimbo Fisher. Maybe you've heard of him.

By your logic, every school that offered a kid a scholarship is "pitiful" if that kid chooses RU instead. That would include most of college football's big-time programs.

Greg Schiano for Penn State in 2010...believe it

Keep telling yourself everything is alright eyes wide, when RU comes into your backyard & takes one of the best 09 recuits without a fight.

FSU has turned into an embaressment!

June 11, 2008  01:16 PM ET

When Rutgers beats ANYONE to a recruit, its time to say byebye to primetime.

June 11, 2008  01:17 PM ET

I heard Jenn Sterger has just turned in her maroon and gold boob tassles for Scarlet and Black. Now that, my friends, is a coup de gras!

June 11, 2008  01:18 PM ET

Or coup de grace. Whatever it is, she has nice boobies.

June 11, 2008  01:40 PM ET

Golly, I think we could take this entire conversation and put ND in the place of FSU and put it on a Charlie's comment string (withouth the brat comments its not quite the same though). This just shows that anyone can have a declining program with only one incident. This is just not right...ND is the only one who is supposed to get this kind of attention!

June 11, 2008  03:49 PM ET

Awww look, all the FSU haters are here today. Well, as long as we're here...

Many of you have correctly pointed out that FSU has taken a tumble the last several years, and yes, we hit rock-bottom. But that's just it, we hit rock-bottom...at 7-6. Think about that, the absolute WORST two year span in FSU football in 30 years and that's it...7-6. We didn't go 3-9 with a cream-puff schedule - Notre Dame! We didn't lose to Stanford - USC! We didn't lose at home to a D2 team - Michigan! And then lose a bowl game TO the team that lost to a D2 school when we were the defending National Champs - Florida!

So that's it, 7-6, that's as bad as it gets...and it won't be that bad again for a looooooong time. We won't win it all this year, but it won't be long 'til we hoist the crystal football in Tally again.

Rutgers Recruiting on Fireeeeeee

June 11, 2008  07:44 PM ET

Okay eyesWIDEopen, ya got me dander up now. ND with a creampuff schedule? If that's true then FSU is right there with'em. ND scheule, at the end of the year was ranked 26, FSU was 24. By the way Rutgers got the guy because they was better'en you AND they won THEIR bowl game! ...oh, and they're smarter, too.

June 11, 2008  08:52 PM ET

The Irish, that actually wasn't meant as a knock on ND or any of the other teams I mentioned. I was just pointing out that although we have had some tough times lately, we're not the only ones. BTW, I didn't realize ND's schedule was ranked that high, maybe I was a little too critical of the Irish when trying to make my point.

June 12, 2008  09:06 AM ET

EYES WIde Open; you may not have lost to Stanford, but what was the rank of your schedule? Where did you finish in the top 25? Both below USC as I recall; also Mark Brazinski chose Rutgers because it is academically superior to FSU, not just because of football (Rutgers #59, FSU #113)

June 12, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Is the chopper what impressed Michigan to the point that they begged Schiano to be coach, "The Warden," or was it his coaching skills and the fact that Michigan is losing to I-AA schools and can't beat the Buckeyes without help from a sniper in the stands?

June 17, 2008  01:14 AM ET

Everybody has creampuff schedules in college football before the perspective conference play. I think that the conferences should have a couple of conference challenges every year similiar to the Big Ten/ACC challenge in college basketball.

Maybe than not everyone would banter the BS everyday in this rediculus sporting format.
