Chris Simms says his relationship with Jon Gruden is beyond repair and has been told he will not be with the Buccaneers in 2008. But with no trade on the horizon, the Bucs' forgotten quarterback wants to be released immediately, bringing an end to his career in Tampa Bay that seemed inevitable after missing nearly two seasons following surgery to remove his spleen.

The Bucs have some unfinished business with the Bears. Send him to Chicago and call it even. Griese for Simms. Simms gets out of Tampa, the Bears fill a QB void and everybody is happy.

he'd probably have a chance to earn a starting position on 4-5 teams.
(bears, vikes, fins, kc, 49ers, lions, jets among others)

The Bucs have like 12 quarterbacks on their roster - I'd want out too.

pw - I was going to name those teams as well...he could walk into the starting job for the Bears for sure. The others might be some competition:

Vikings - still not necessarily ready to give up on Tavaris Jackson, he's developing.
Dolphins - Bill Parcells sits in the front office. Bill Parcells favors crappy quarterbacks who have "veteran experience."
Chiefs - might be a walk-in job
49ers - Not ready to give up on Alex Smith just yet
Lions - John Kitna is their man!
Jets - desperately need a quarterback...Chad Pennington is garbage.

Didn't Applewhite beat OK? Applewhite was apparently a better player than Chris but I don't believe that either had the best of luck. Applewhite was finally sunk by the patriots. Send this kid to Chi town.

Simms needs to come to teh Giants and serve as a backup for Mr. Elijah Manning.
Come on over Chris Simms we really wnat you over here. Come on buddy, yes?

June 11, 2008  08:28 AM ET

I can SEE that between a player and Gruden....he's one mean looking
dude. Simms was doing really well before his spleen operation so I
feel a team needing a QB should make the call...

Giants?! I thought that you guys only liked UK QB's? Don't you like the Hefty Lefty?

June 11, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Simms is a decent guy and could be a very good QB. This is more about Gruden than Simms. Gruden does not want Simms to succeed. And he is not going to give him the chance to prove him wrong...Simms will persevere and make it in the NFL.. He has been left no choice but to go public. I say good for him..

Big Bad Bears Backer ,,Actually Carr is the back up ( one year one mil contract). Stop it, hey you never know... Woodson from Kentucky will be the third string clipboard. And lorenzen will be the odd man out.

June 11, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Simms just wants a shot somewhere.

June 11, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Chucky hurt widdle Chrissy's feelings. bet he plays for them.

June 11, 2008  09:56 AM ET

This guy gave everything he had to the Bucs and it nearly killed him. So how do they reward him? They sign Garcia and trade for Plummer, then bring in 50 QBs this summer. I would want to get the hell out of there too, the Bucs are a broken team any way.

June 11, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Come on to the Cowboys. They need a decent #2/#3. They have Brad Johnson but he only has so much left.

June 11, 2008  11:41 AM ET

The Buc owners wanted to keep Simms because he all most gave up the ghost on the Field. Gruden gave in to the owners and kept Simms when he wanted to cut him. I dont think they will release him until the Garcia issue is resolved on rather he gets a new contract or retires. Plus if Simms can prove that he can play again, it would improve his trade value. I would keep him through camp as well, its just good business. NO Garcia, would have Greise starting, and Chris and McCown fighting for the the number two spot.

wwwwaaaaahhhhh. eagles need someone.

June 11, 2008  12:18 PM ET

his contract runs through this year. 2008. That is it...The only way they can keep him after this year is to franchise tag him, not going to happen. His trade value is limited because he will e unsigned at the end of the year.
TB has two choices, play him or release him..gonna lose him after this year anyways.. hope it all works out for Simms. I think he can play well in the NFL..
