Coach George Karl was asked if the Nuggets might trade Carmelo Anthony. He didn't rule it out but said the Nuggets won't be "irrational or out of control in our decision making." "We're going to keep all windows of opportunity and windows of advancement and betterment ... open," Karl said. "But I don't think we have crazy guys in the front office who are going to do something wild."

If this is in fact true then it should be a done deal. They can't win with the team they have, so I would call the deal on the table "advancement and betterment."

Nuggets need some new blood. Bye, Melo.

June 11, 2008  09:32 AM ET

miami will give shawn marion and #2 pick to denver for melo and camby

June 11, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Bye Bye Carmelo... Hopefully they send you to a team that can actually win next year.

I will be interested to see what the REAL value is for melo-

It will be lower than you think. It seems he's infected by the "I love me" bug and he doesn't play defense.

June 11, 2008  09:54 AM ET

- yeah-
but he scores 25 pts/g........AND he's young

You don't just find a franchise-caliber scoring option

June 11, 2008  09:55 AM ET

I can't believe ownership would allow GK this kind of decision based on GK's coaching fiasco this year. Sorry but keep Melo get Avery.

June 11, 2008  09:58 AM ET

wont get much for a guy who only plays on one side of the court. bet AI is smiling some where saying I'm gonna be da man again!

June 11, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Its about time. Who needs a Forward with up's and a strong outside game, who refuses to attack the rim. He also appears to quit on his team when frustated by bad calls. He has one of the best games in the league, yet it appears he will be the next Derrick Coleman. all the skill and none of the drive.

June 11, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Carmelo definitely has his faults, but he's too young and too talented to just be shipped away at this point. I , don't blame everything on Karl like most Denver apologists, but I do believe new blood is needed at the head coach position. Look how Avery Johnson made Dirk a tougher player, I think he can make Carmelo Anthony a better all-around player. Avery got a raw deal in Dallas because those pansies quit on him, he's a good coach and I think he would get more out of an uber-talented team than Karl did.

June 11, 2008  10:49 AM ET

moe- not dis-agreeing with you......but

if Dallas' players quit on Avery.....whether it was his fault or not...they quit.
- that's not a good thing to have on your resume

And as far as Karl/denver....
- tehy are actually one of the few teams in the league that SEEMED perfectly crafted-
2 gifted scorers, 2 solid frontcourt defenders/rebounders, several good role players, decent bench.....
I actually TOTALLY blame Karl

June 11, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Miami could get him but not for 2nd pick for camby. trade him straight up for Marion and then Beasley can play the shooting forward (if he has the ability to play sf which i think he would be like a scottie pippen if he can start handling like pippen). otherwise trade beasley blount and cash for melo and keep marion at the sf.

June 11, 2008  11:02 AM ET

I get your point jgb, but I think Avery's situation was you can't fire all the players, so it's the coach. I put that blame on the players, because Avery didn't stop being a good coach, the players decided to mail it in and become quitters, that team wasn't suited for Avery's style over the long haul because they're soft.

As far as Karl goes, it may seem his team was perfectly crafted but lets look at the players.

SCORERS
Carmelo: sure, great scorer, no effort on defense, can pout when he's not getting calls
Iverson: while he may score, offense goes stagnant, nobody gets better on the floor with him

FRONTCOURT
K-Mart: wildly inconsistent when he's not hurt
Nene: see K-Mart

ROLE PLAYERS
I agree with you totally on this one, Kleiza and Smith were luxury items that Karl didn't use properly.

Yes, Karl's fingerprints are on this, but sometimes you have to look at the players. The two best players on the team didn't get it done and are known more for stats and less for actually winning anything. Iverson's too old to change, Carmelo still has a shot.

June 11, 2008  11:18 AM ET

is marcus canmby not part of the frontcourt Moe?

June 11, 2008  11:32 AM ET

Yes ak47, he is, forgive me for omitting him. As far as Camby is concerned, he's great at what he does and should be utilized more on the offensive side of the ball.

June 11, 2008  12:29 PM ET

He and Carmelo just can't coexist anymore and since he isn't going anywhere of course they will try and trade Carmelo.

I fully agree. This team had all the pieces to go far, very far. The problem was in-game coaching. Knowing Karl, with Anthony and Iverson around, I'm sure practices were soft too.

June 11, 2008  01:51 PM ET

Yeah, Denver needs to Dump get rid of Melo...there is no place for a take every shot, play no defense guy on the nuggets!

Sincerely,

Allen Iverson

June 11, 2008  02:17 PM ET

The main problem is Karl. Get rid of him...Melo won at Syracuse as a frosh so its not like he hasn't won before. He is a top 5 offensive threat and can rebound when he wants too. Avery Johnson would be a good fit. I also agree that they had all the pieces in order to win.
